I was on a session by Stephen Walther where he introdused client side ajax by a web service,
the example was pritty simple:
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
<thead>
<tr>
<td>
<asp:Button
id="btnShowDetails"
runat="server"
Text="test"
/>
</td>
</tr> </thead>
<tbody id="myTbody">
</tbody>
</table>
</div>
<script type="text/javascript">
function showText() {
AjaxWebService.MyWebService.Product.getText(showTextComplete);
}
function showTextComplete(result) {
$("myTbody").html(result);
}
The web service return a simple string like "<table><tr><td>This is a test</td></tr></table>".
The problem is in the function showTextComplete, I always get "Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object expected",
it's the $("myTbody") that's wrong. When Walther showed it, it worked fine.
So what em I doing wrong?
Thanks
Thomas

try
var myTbody = $get("myTbody");
myTbody.html(result);
or
myTbody.html = result;
I didn't get any requirements for the signature

var myTbody = $get("myTbody");
myTbody.html(result);
gives me the objekt, thus the objekt does't support the method .html(..)
(I can acully drop the "var myTbody = $get("myTbody");", since it findes it without it.)
I thought maby I could use
myTbody.innerHTML = result;
But this gives me a "htmlfile: Unknown runtime error" exeption

Are you using VS2008? Can you set a break point to see the contents of result?

Yes, and it is OK with reslut = ""<table><tr><td>This is a test</td></tr></table>"
|
|

Well then create a string variable and set it to the result.
If you have your html object such as a div tag. And a string that is your innerHTML or innerText there is no reason why that shouldn't work.

I have a gridview bound to an ObjectDataSource (DataTable).
DataKeyNames = "LocationId"
How can I find the row in my gridview with that LocationId?
I would like to have the row displayed (could be on a different page in the gridview) and selected after the postback.
Is there an easy way to do this?

Dont know is this the easy way or not, but its kind of old C Language way...
int SearchRowIndex = -1;
foreach (GridViewRow gvRow in GridView1.Rows)
if (gvRow.Cells[0].Text == LocationID)
{
SearchRowIndex = gvRow.RowIndex;
break;
}
if(SearchRowIndex >=0)

Thanks for the help. But I simply removed the paging and put the grid inside a div with a side scroller. Then I set rowstate to selected on rowdatabound if the row was the row I was looking for.
Thanks for the reply though. After thinking about it, I didn't like the paging anyway. It just makes it more difficult to find records.

I am creating my own sessionid by implementing sessionidmanager class's createsessionid method.
In the validate method if i return false,it throws an error in the browser saying that session is invalid.
But i want to recreate a new sessionid, how do we call the createsessionid method again ?
explicitly calling createsessionid method from the validate method deosnt work.
Please help me

Hai,
Is there any way to bind a dropdownlist with a nested object collection without looping through the collection and adding as list item?

Thomas.

I have an User object and an Address object,the Address object is ebdded inside the User Object and I want to set the Datattext field as (User.UserName) and DataValueField as (User.Address.AddressId),hope you understood.
Thanks,
Thomas.

Why?
Just iterate through the array or generic list or whatever your object is. Actually, iterating through a datatable or anything else is always more efficient then calling a control's databind method.

Hai,,
One more thing,why is iterating through a collection is more efficient than calling a databind method,this is just for my knowledge,what happens when an object is bound to a datasource?

Thomas Antony K wrote: why is iterating through a collection is more efficient than calling a databind method
Both does the same. But data binding is made to support a wide audience. So there will be extra checking before data is added. When you iterate the collection, you are directly adding data to the control. But this performance difference is not noticeable.
