Hi every one,
I am using magicAjax in my Asp.net application.It works fine for all normal purpose. I have set up four dropdownlists as filters in my webpage.The selection of a value will affects the values of other four dropdownlists.i.e:The selection filters values.
I did this by handling the selection changed event.
I put tried by putting all the dropdown filters in seperate AjaxPanel and also I tried by putting all of them in the same AjaxPanel.But it doesn't work properly.
When I take the controls out of ajaxpanel,it works fine.
Is there any problem ,in my implementing of ajaxPanel (it works fine for all other controls)
Thanks in advance.

Hi all,
I have developed a custom pager control, which has been inherited from WebControl, IPostBackDataHandler. Function of the control is to render a pager layout ( page numbers, next, prev, buttons ) and raise an event on the server when page change in UI.
Problem is what when i place any validator control which are validate on server only are raising validation on custom pager control's post back.
code preview
PreRender(){
}
Render(){
}
LoadPostData(){
}
RaisePostDataChangedEvent(){
}
if anybody has resolution of this problem, please guide me, i will be very thankful to all of you.
Confidence comes not from always being right, but from not fearing to be wrong.

Thanks

View state in asp.net
Let us consider a simple Scenario
We have a work flow kind of application. Where we need to enter lot of information in each page and we are navigating accross pages. We may get error at any page. and we have final save.
In classic ASP it was user responsiblity to maintaining the data entered in all the pages some place and we used to use session variables or quering string variables while navigating accross pages.
That means when a form is submitted in classic ASP, all form values are cleared. Suppose you have submitted a form with a lot of information and the server comes back with an error. You will have to go back to the form and correct the information. You click the back button, and what happens, ALL form values are cleared, and you will have to start all over again! The site did not maintain your ViewState.
But in the case of ASP .NET, the form maintains your ViewState. The ViewState indicates the status of the page when submitted to the server. The status is defined through a hidden field placed on each page with a control.
This happen (ASP.net) when the ctrl's EnableViewState property set to True (by defaule). using unnecessary ViewState leads to performance hit for the application. And there are n' number of of issues.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
You can use appsettings section in web config file to store the value and then you can use the same value whereever you want in your web page.
For ex: In web.config file:
<appsettings>
<add key="TheKey" value="thevalue">
And in your .CS file:
System.Configuration.ConfigurationSettings.AppSettings["thekey"]
Hope this will solve your problem.

Hi,
The Page_Load event fires in two situations:
1. When the page is rendered from the server to the client.
2. When the client Posts Back the form.
How can I know which action fired the Page_Load event?
IsPostBack doesn't work because after the initial rendering of the page from the server to the client, IsPostBack is always true.
I need to know because my application generates controls dinamically using only one form. Therefore every roundtrip that generate controls will always have IsPostBack true after the first rendering.
Example:
First page rendering -> controls are generated dinamically
Postback -> read the controls values and generate new ones
Second page rendering -> show the new controls
(at this moment, even though the server is rendering a page with completely
different controls, IsPostBack is true because the webform
is the same. That's why I cannot use IsPostBack to determine if the
Page_Load event was fired by a rendering or by a client post)
Postback -> read the controls values and generate new ones
...
TIA

Hi there,
Generally speaking, the Page_Load event get fired every time the page is visisted including the first time and postback. When you work with the dynamic control, you should remember that you need to reinsert it on postback if you want to read the value from it or you still want to see it on the web form. More importantly, you need to add it before the ViewState is loaded and postback data is processed. In this case, you should not use the IsPostBack property to check if you need to readd the dynamic control, instead you may consider using the ViewState to persist the name/url of the dynamic control that you are using. And this ViewState item tells you which control you should add to the control hierarchy so that you can read the control value. For more information, you can see ASP.NET Page Life Cycle Overview [^]
