Word Doc from Database

Hi i am creating an application that help the user to upload his word documents to an sql server database
i want to bind a datagrid to the database so the user can see what he uploaded. also, when the user clicks on the document title it will load it in Microsoft Word so he can read it.

any idea how to bind the datagrid to the documents stored in the databse and how to load a document into Microsoft word?

Hi,
I appologise for my knowledge of English. I think you be able use table in data base - Name(char(50)), Data(text). Name for document title and Data for Ms Word document. For load document you be able use ASP.NET web handler's. Web handlers are software modules that handle raw HTTP requests received by ASP.NET. I be able send you sample use this handler's.

Hi,

This is very simple.
1) You store the word document in a specific folder on the server.
2) Store the filename and path details to a database table.
3) Select the files information and assign to a datagrid, on the datagrid make the file name as a hyperlink.
4) onclick of the link open the file by changing the content type.

Onclick event of an linkbuttton (which has file name as text) write this code(change variable names etc...)

in code behind pages, and inside ItemDataBound , how i get the data if the datagrid mode is edit mode, that means..

xxxxxxx is the coding to reterive the data from the selected row inside datagrid in edit mode ?

If you want to check the edit mode then you can put this check for that;
if(e.Item.ItemType==ListItemType.EditItem)

This has to be put in the OnItemDataBound. So this code(under this condition) will get executed for the which is in edit mode.

I have a button on a ASP.NET page. I have some code in the page_load event.
Every time i click the button first the page_load event is firing first and then
the button_click event. How can i make the button_click event to fire first and
later the page_load event.

hi there,

I think you mean that you want the code in block Page_Load not execute when the button is clicked, right? if so, you just put the code into block if(!Page.IsPostBack), it'll not execute when user clicks the button

I'm sure this has been brought up before, but I just can't seem to locate the answer.

I have an internal application that needs to allow access to an admin to manage roles and users on the ASP.Net 2 Website Administration Tool that we all love so much Sigh | :sigh:

My question is, is there a way to provide access to this "site" area to someone who is NOT on the local server?

Ok first, I'll outline my project. It is a web application made to search and display records of archived technical documents. What I have right now is a page that uses datagrids (via drag and drop from Visual Studio 2005) to display columns of data from my SQL Test server.

What I need now is a way to create a simple form text box and create and pass a variable to the SELECT statement within the datagrids. All my attempts at this thus far, using both ASP and C# and MSDN knowledgebase, have ended in frustration.

Here is the code of the datagrid:

What I need to do is where it says [IDENT]='1', is have that "1" be a parameter passed from an HTML form, perhaps looking like this WHERE [IDENT]='"% strIDENT %"', yet I do not know how to pass a parameter from an HTML form into that SELECT statement. Any help would be great as this is a problem holding up my project.

To reiterate, I need to:
A. create an html form text box
B. pass that textbox as a variable
C. place that variable into the SELECT statement for the ASP datagrid.

Any help would be great, example code, whatever it takes; the simpler the better =) Please just don't send me to MSDN's Datagrid Knowledge Base page as 1/2 the stuff there doesn't even work =[.

Hi,

You can not pass HTML text box and construct an query dynamically. You should go for server side coding. Imagine there is a button control on click of the control you have to construct the query dynamically based on the values entered on the textbox. So onclick event of the button you can construct the query like,

button1_onclick()
{
string strQuery = "";
strQuery = "Select field1, field2 from table1 where field1 like %'" + textbox1.text.trim() + "%'";
then execute the query with adaptor or something....
}
