Dear Sandeep,
Thank you for your response. Unfortunately WebRequest and WebResponse are not part of the context here. I'm way up the ASP.NET Stack intercepting the Http response.

Hi My code is in Csharp and I have a SQL express database.
I want to acheive the following using a calendar control
I want the user after logging on to go to their "private page"
where the calender is located to be able to select days or weeks when
they are on holiday and then click update. Their friends when visiting the site
on the public page will then be able to see when this person is home.
Any Help appreciated.

Is there a particular part of this you have a problem with?

I have a vague idea on how it can be done but not much to start on.
I think I am right in creating a table for the sql
database that has a date format field.
from there I connect it some way to a asp.net web calender
maybe via a web control or optional drop down to display the
dates so the user can select. The private admin page I can
set up using roles and ask the user to login to get to this page.
It is fairly vague.
any advice appreciated.
thanks

hi
i want to use ssl to transfer data securely over the network.is it free ? or do i may need to spend to enable SSL to be used in my application.

To use SSL the way it is meant to be used you must purchase a certificate from an agency such as Verisign. They run around $1000 I believe and in order to utilize SSL you just point to that certificate.

Certificates give you:- Strong encryption.
- Trust that the site that you are accessing is safe.
- Trust that the site that you are accessing is who they say they are.
If you create your own certificate then you your customer's browser will display a big warning message to say that your site is protected by an untrusted certificate. It doesn't prove whether you are a good guy or a bad guy - just that you are not explicitely trusted.
Using a certificate from a trusted authority (e.g. Verisign, Thwaites, etc) means that the authority is convinced that your site is trusted. Customer browsers will not display an warning message under this circumstance.
There are quite a few authorities out there - Verisign is one of the more expensive.
Hope that helps.

thanks for the reply,
you said that that Certificates give me "strong encryption".can you please say how does it work out( i mean how does getting from certificate authority make my site more secure ?
Can u suggest a good economical certification authority which does not pop up as untrusted certificate.
is it that all ssl certifying authorities (cheap or costly) are fine and are trusted authorities or they are fake ones which may cheat us?
i am novice using ssl and i need to implement ssl for my credit card transactions so i need more information.
any suggestions are welcome....
thnks for your time and effort in advance

this is the code to do that, Dont forget to score it if it satisfies your need.
FileStream fileStream = new FileStream("c:\\Admin.rtf", FileMode.OpenOrCreate, FileAccess.Read);
long len;
len = fileStream.Length;
Byte[] fileAsByte = new Byte[len];
fileStream.Read(fileAsByte, 0, fileAsByte.Length);
now you are having data in fileAsByte variable
database
========
add a field in your table as image type
then pass this value there
all the best

Read the data back to varable fileAsByte
then do the following
Response.Clear();
Response.ClearContent();
Response.ClearHeaders();
Response.Buffer = true;
Response.ContentType = "application/rtf";
Response.BinaryWrite(fileAsByte);
Response.End();
