When you create your web site on the web server you need to add a host header. So in the IIS manager right click your new web site. On the web site tab next to the ip address click the advanced button. This is where you set up the URL for your web site. Add a url, something like www.yourcompanyname.com or www.webappname.com. Once you have done that make sure you write down the IP address it has been assigned to. Now you need to go to the DNS server on your network. This is where your computers go to when they want to figure out name resolution. So you need to create an entry in your dns server that points the url you used above to the IP address. If for some reason you don't have access to the DNS server there is one other way you can do this, but I don't really suggest it.

Hello,
How can I display or hide Gridview columns in ASP.NET 2.0?
I am using C# and would like to know if there is a good way to perform this action using other controls such as check box to display\hide columns.

Hi,
I am using Response object to dowload a file from my server like, <Response.WriteFile(), Response.End()>
During the FileDownloading, I wish to redirect to another page, saying some message (Thank you for download) to the user.
Problem : If I use the Response.Redirect(URL) after Response.End() in download, It wont works. If I use previously, the file is not downloads.
What is the soln for this?
Regards,
Jay

If it is another page in your web site you should be able to use:
Server.Transfer(URL)
Hope that helps.

Bit of a tricky one here - have an app which is framed, and into the main frame we load usercontrols (ascxs) into a placeholder to act as pages (The app was written before Master Pages ). Now all is fine with this setup, but I've recently run into a strange problem.
I have an ascx which grabs its data using AJAX. Everything works correctly. Now when I use the back button, I navigate correctly back, but when I come to navigate forwards again, I find that SOME of the contents of the "dialog" are still there. What do I mean by Some? Well, the data that was contained in ASP:Labels is cleared correctly as it should be, but items in ASP:TextBoxes aren't cleared down - they maintain their state from before the browser back.
I have a js function, which is run every time the page loads (including on bck / forward nav)which is responsible for clearing everything down, and having stepped through it, the plot thickens! The code uses document.getElementById, which manages to get hold of the controls correctly. Strangely, the props of the controls indicate that they're empty already, but pressing ahead with some .value='' lines, everything appeared to go correctly, but the text in the textboxes steadfastly refuses to diappear.
ANYONE have any ideas - anything at all? It's driving us nuts here!

The browser remembers the contents of form fields.
RichardGrimmer wrote: I have a js function, which is run every time the page loads
Are you running it from the onload event in the body tag, or from a script tag in the body? If the later, try the former. You may be clearing the fields before they are populated by the browser.

Yeah - that was my first line of enquiry! And we also suspected that it was to do with the fact that they're form fields, but unfortunately, the problem is that I need to clear these fields down, so wrote a clearDialog() function, coded into a separate js file. This function appeared to do what it said on the tin, but it was as though something was happening AFTER I'd cleared it.
At the moment I'm leaning to putting the blame on my AJAX manager - rather than use a "global" XMLHTTP, I've created a lib to handle it, and one of the features is that multiple requests are "handled correctly". Having traced the code, it looks like my onreadystatechanged callback functions are getting confused, so that on startup, it's going off to get some static data, getting the data, then falling through to the wrong callback fn - which by a strange quirk, still has its data available, so it goes off and does its thang, which fills in the fields I've just cleared down...
Ooops
Cheers for the reply though Guffa.

Hi,
Is there anyway that I can check through code (C# or VB.Net) whether the scripts enabled in the browser, if the user disabled it? If I write some javascript validations, inorder to work the validation correctly, scripts has to be enabled. Also, is it possible to check whether the cookies are also enabled? any help in this regard would be greatly appreciable.
Thanks,

i think youu should not play with user's browser. It solly depends on him

Thank you Sandeep. I agree that it's not wise to play with user's browser. But for some applications, it may be essential to check whether the scripts enabled or not inorder to run the script validations and functions run properly.
I have found out one solution is that there is an html tag called 'noscripts' after the "" tag in html page. Write any text between that. For eg: '<noscripts>' Check Scripts Enabled ''. We can get this value using another variable which is explained clearly in this url:

Hi Ram
I didn't say that its not possible you can do that there are many ways to achieve it but Who knows due to dependency your logic get collapsed at any time If you want to do then think other side also and implement for worse case also
Thanks and Regards
