This is a function in the browser, and the user decides if the function should be used or not.
You can't control this functionality programmatically, and there is no way that you can set the value of a password textbox using code.

Use the image as background of an element, and put the controls in the element.

I am lost. Please someone help!
What I am working with:
VB with code-behind, databound dropdownlist with columns of linkname and linkaddress
I have been unable to successfully figure out how to write a javascript function that opens a new window in IE when the selecteditem is changed.
Can anyone help me?

To do exactly what you are asking for is (AFAIK) impossible using only Javascript. To open a new window in a specific program (in this case IE) requires you to run an executable on the client computer.
To open a new browser window, however, is easy:
onchange="window.open('PageToOpen.aspx','_blank');"
You can add the value of the selected item as a querystring:
onchange="window.open('PageToOpen.aspx?someNiftyName='+this.options[this.selectedIndex].value,'_blank');"
You also can set the onchange attribute from code behind:
TheDropDownListControl.Attributes("onchange") = "window.open('PageToOpen.aspx','_blank');"

I'm sorry I am still not understanding it...
Here is what I have:
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
End Sub
Protected Sub DropDownList1_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles DropDownList1.SelectedIndexChanged
End Sub
I guess I am not as savvy as I thought. Where do these codes go? Is there javascript involved? I also forgot to mention I am coding this in asp.net in a web form not a windows app.
Thanks for your help!

In the markup code. In the aspx page.

Yes. You have to use Javascript to open a new browser window. That can not be done using ASP.NET code.
The event happens in the browser, and the new window has to be opened in the browser, so there is no reason to use a server event to do it.
I also forgot to mention I am coding this in asp.net in a web form not a windows app.
As you are posting in the ASP.NET forum, I took that for granted.

ok Here is how far I have gotten. Please let me know I am so close!
Javascript:
function openOrange(selObj,restore){
var theFullString = selObj.options[selObj.selectedIndex].value;
if (restore) selObj.selectedIndex=0;
var theLength = theFullString.length;
var endPos = theFullString.lastIndexOf("~");
var theUrl, theTarget, theParent;
if (endPos > 0) {theUrl = theFullString.substring(0,endPos);}
else {theUrl = theFullString;}
endPos++
window.open(theUrl);
}
PageLoad event:
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
DropDownList1.Attributes.Add("onchange", "javascript:openOrange(this,1)")
End Sub
Got it to work finding some javacode for a jumpmenu. Anyone know how to clean it up?

Mainly i'm a JAVA programmer and new to ASP .NET.
But nw I'm creating a 2 player game in ASP .NET. I'm thinking how to send every user action to other user.
Options:
1.I'm thinking of using Sockets.
Problem i'm facing in sockets in asp:
I can get connected to server socket from client only if the socket is created and used on the same page.
I want to store the socket objects in objects created global.asax or Application object.
2. Repeatitive checkin in as pages(seems bad to me a action occurs every couple of second)

Hi,
Is there a way of creating help documents something similar to the MSDN Help 2008? I have a web app and I need to create help files for my classes and methods, constructors, etc.
It must preferably be free, but price shouldn't be an issue.

Hi all.
Ive got a silly little problem irritating the hell out of me. I binded a GridView to a collection in the code, as we had to loop through several tables to retrieve the correct specific record. So I did the same for the DetailsView and everything seems to be working, in terms of they both show the correct details. But the irritating problem is that when i select a record in the gridview to display it in the detailsview, I have to click the "Select" link once, which seems to highlight the row, and then click "select" a second time to display its details.
This irritates me as I know from when I used smart tags before, I only had to click once.
Does anyone have an idea whats wrong? or what i need to do?
Much Appreciated
Dazz

Hi,
I am created a web application such as, if user want to upload photo. He can drag photo from window explorer and drop it on animation control over the web page and upload it by simply clicking the upload button. The paths of these photos are inserted into html select control.
So, my qery is,
is any ActiveX control which I can use for uploading the files ?
Here I am not using the InputFile control so I am not able to upload the files on server.
By "File.copy(source, destination)" I can upload the file locally.
Any one can give me answer for this?

I have this code:
lable.text = hr.GetDataByReturnRequestNumber(((TextBox)FormView2.FindControl("DropDownList3")).Text, ((TextBox)FormView2.FindControl("AreaTextBox")).Text, Convert.ToInt32(((TextBox)FormView2.FindControl("OrgCodeTextBox")).Text), Convert.ToDateTime(((TextBox)FormView2.FindControl("InsertDateTimeTextBox")).Text));
and I got these 2 errors:
1- cannot implicity convert type 'DH.RequestFormDataTable' to ''string'
2- Unable to cast object of type 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.DropDownList' to type 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.TextBox'.
can any body help me with it please.....

Is the method returning a DH.RequestFormDataTable? Then you can't put that in the Text property of the label. What is it that you want to put in the label?
I suppose that DropDownList3 is a DropDownList and not a TextBox? So why are you trying to cast it to a TextBox?

Is any file File Uploader ActiveX control ? to upload the files
Thanks

Why do you need ActiveX control for uploading file?
I never use any ActiveX control in my project. I used to use only "File" html control. but the problem with this control is that it doesn't support multiple file uploads. it is very big problem when I was developing the Photo Gallery web application that need multiple photos uploads. What I did is that I make the "file" control (eg: fileCtl1 ) invisiable after the user selected the image for uploading. then, I dynamically create another "file"(eg: fileCtl2 ) control and show it to the user. When the user clicks "Upload" button, I take all "file" controls and save them to the server. (eg: fileCtl1.Save and fileCtl2.Save )..
If you don't wanna write the js code, you may probably use Flash control for that..
check-out the link below if you interest in using flash upload controls in ASP.NET
http://www.codeproject.com/aspnet/FlashUpload.asp[^]
Hope it helps.
