The Windows Phone SDK 7.1 Beta 2 formerly known as the Windows Phone Developer Tools has been released few hours ago, but more important, Microsoft pleased to announce the immediate availability of Windows Phone OS 7.1 codenamed Mango for registered Windows Phone developers.

So if you have a Windows Phone Developer account, you'll receive an invitation from Microsoft Connect that will provide access to a firmware update for your Windows Phone.

What you should have in order to participate in this program:

    • An active, validated App Hub account
    • Only one phone per developer
    • Development using new Windows Phone SDK 7.1

Another note: There were rumors about the name of the new OS release. Some say that it will be called Windows Phone 7.5 and only the SDK is 7.1. Based on Microsoft's announcement today, it seems like the new OS version is Windows Phone 7.1, but the device is called Windows Phone 7.5... Weird!

Another note: This update is only available for: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United States.

Israel is not on the list yet… Bummer!
