I could easily answer the first three.
My company develops s/w that
1. is used internally
2. is sold as a package to customers
3. is leased to customers (not sure about this)
4. is used to process customers' files. Banks, credit unions, ATM owners, etc send us the files, which we process.
Of course, I also write my own tiny programs.
Cheers,
Vikram.

At my day job, I writing applications and web-sites for internal corporate use. In my free-time, I'm writing tools for myself and to make my day job easier.
In-between all that I still have some of my consultancy work which is a mixture of everything on the list.

My employer sells... hardware. Big, expensive machines. I write software used internally to help in selling the stuff, and a subset of this is also distributed to potential customers so that it can aid them in choosing an appropriate product for their needs.
Not to mention all the tools i write to fulfill my own or my coworkers' needs.

I do both at my job. My company sells computer hardware for embedded applications. Our customers use software libraries to build their applications, but also use pre-built utilities we provide for setup and diagnostic purposes.
I know it has been stated a few times already, but I'll repeat anyway: this should have been a multiple-choice survey.

I make software cuz it feels good and is satisfying. I hope to get a job as a software developer someday though.

Yeah, I know. I'm repeating Furty's post. But really, why would someone make this a "select one" survey?

Good question, I develop for a company, myself and sell stuff that I made. It seems some of use are asking a little too much of the system

You could use the optional answer to vote for "All of the above".
|
|
|
|
|
Only problem is there's no radio button for the "Other:" option, so once you've clicked on one of the other selections, the vote stays with it..

hehe. I've done that! Heck, I've written software I thought I'd use, but never did!

Just not all at the same time.. This really should have been a multiple answer poll.

Same here. Maybe it should be: "How do you derive most of your income?"

This poll is a clear case for multiple selections/answers, isn't it?

I develop software for internal company use that is also used by customers.
