Italy. A strange land of missing services, ignorance raised as a life value and venerated as a life goal, egotism and corruption.

I guess some things are common to many states, especially here in Europe... As far as I've been told by natives Albania and Romania are in the same situation. But us Italians invented "Cosa Nostra", that's a point of pride (actually for many it is, sadly).

And you think Italy is unique in that?

Funny then that one of the very few conferences I have been to was in Italy. (And it made me fall in love with Italy, at least for vacations. The last couple of months, my brain has been hooked on Italian baroque music...)
Maybe that conference was closer to a researcher's conference than developer's. I suppose the difference isn't that essential.

Italy has many interesting (and beautiful) places to visit. OTOH, compared to many other Western countries, it has a pretty bad reputation for corruption and bureaucratic entanglements.
Would I visit Italy as a tourist? Definitely!
Would I want to live there? Hell, no!
Ad astra - both ways!

Never been to a "developer conference" but I used to go to a lot of the user groups, industry speakers, demonstrations of interesting tech and a few beers afterwards, they were good fun.
Do they still have user groups?

Our Microsoft people say they have them often. I have asked to be included in the mailing list, yet have never received an email about one. I do however get all sorts of Azule this that and another thing messages...So who really knows.
Common sense is admitting there is cause and effect and that you can exert some control over what you understand.
