I setup my project as a release.
When I run it through VS2010, it doesn't crash.
Standalone CRASH!

Can anyone suggest some good books to learn drawing in VC++?

Drawing what ? drawing controls (ownerdrawn) ? simple 2D drawing (use GDI/GDI+) ? or 3D (DirectX or OpenGL) ?

Depending on what you're looking for.. I have a copy of "Starting out with Games & Graphics in C++" and it's very nice, it uses the Dark GDK wizards which you can get from www.thegamecreators.com for free.

Is it possible to draw in different layers? So that if you erase something in one layer whatever you have drawn on the layers beneath won't get erased.

no, there is no built-in layer concept in VC++ or GDI. you'll have to come up with a custom layering mechanism.
i've done it by drawing each layer into its own CBitmap/HBITMAP, then drawing the Bitmaps into a final composite bitmap for rendering to the screen.

I want some small rectangles on one layer. Then a line has to move from one end to another(which will be like drawing line ..erasing that and drawing next line in new position).This line I want in another layer so that the rectangles are not erased. When I tried to do both rectangles and lines together the rectagles are getting erased.So if i have them in separate layers then change inone layer will not affect the other. So is it possible to have line drawing in one layer and rectangles in another ?

How to know from the current CWnd object if the Parent CWnd object has been sized. If so how to get its new RECT size (to do modifications to the child (this) or (current) CWnd object).

Anchored to the Parent CWnd. CoolButton must know if the parent CWnd has been changed its size, to make the CoolButton moves too

Hi everybody,
As i said, MAPIReadNext function return 0 and a pointer to unread message on windows live mail, but after it, if i send a MAPIReadMail command i receive a 0 return code again, but the pointer to struct message is NULL.
Portion of my code:

Hello,
In my MFC MDI application, I would like to dock a set of side panes in tabs. For the tabs, I would like a 32x32 icon and no text, similarly to the 3ds max style:

Is this achievable using the CDockingManager, or are the 16x16 icon sizes hard-coded?
I am using VS2010 RC.

You will need to google this, Windows Development it's on MSDN.
The book alone won't help much, but MSDN with Windows Development topic should put you in the right path.
You need to focus on which Windows version you want to target!
Windows XP / GDI
Windows Vista / Direct2D (update)
Windows 7 / Direct2D
Focus on CreateWindow function and Common Controls! 
And Visual Styles...

AFAIK, basic Win32 should work for all versions of Windows.

HI all,
Is it possible to link STL dynamically to my application? For me it is a bit confusing as template libraries are shipped as source. Hence making those in a DLL does not make sense. Please correct me if I am wrong.
The real problem here is I have a static library produced my latest compiler which uses STL. Now If my client want to use it this library with compiler of lower version, it gives STL class undefined error.
Please help.

I don't get you here: using a static library (so, basically a collection of functions and/or classes in executable format) should have nothing to do with such an error...

so if my static library is compiled with newer version of compiler and my client uses it in its code which is compiled with older version of compiler. Things should work fine?
This problem statment utimately boils down to
1) I have one static libray say "A" build with Compiler 2.0, uses STL
2) I have another static library "B" compiled with Compiler 1.0 uses STL
If I try to make my client application with Compiler 1.0. using both the libraries(A and B), will it work?
Does linker allows me to link two libraries carrying different STL instances? Can there be ambiguities or optimization issues?

No, because you should not use STL across library boundaries...without really knowing what you do. First of all is STL not a binary compatible interface, you must compile with exactly the same STL version in all modules/libraries/DLLs. There is probably no linker warning/error if you try otherwise. Secondly allocating memory in one module's heap and deallocating in another will fail, if you do not provide special allocators. In short, there is no easy way to use STL in exported interfaces.
