Chris,
I get email notifications whenever someone posts a reply. The email always comes from [forums at codeproject dot com].
This past weekend, one on Saturday and anther one on Sunday, I received post reply emails, but instead of the usual forum email address, the emails came from the users email address. In both cases the post was deleted by the time I checked. When I clicked on the link they were both gone.
Is this typical? I have not encountered this before.

Oh didn't you notice, analogous to square roots, they recently introduced rectangular, circular, and diamond roots to determine the size of the corresponding shapes when given the area. Luc Pattyn[^]

Are you sure they weren't direct emails using the 'Email' link? These send emails to you and do not appear in the forums themselves

Sorry for the inconvenience. You are right, they were direct emails. Better read the whole email next time.

Some old code from the beta testing days was left in that was acting as a safety switch to ensure that beta testers would not inadvertantly involve non-beta testers was being a little too keen on stopping emails go through in that it could not be convinced we were out of beta testing.
A large angle grinder removed that particular bur.

Just in case that wasn't clear...
A few times I answer a question on the C++ forum with something like:

As you see, the text of the hyperlink has been set to be the same as the URL. I then had to go and cut and paste the title of the article in instead. This strikes me as easily automatable.

linktext = LookupTitle (linktext)
Not real code obviously...
I'm struggling to think of a time the raw cp URL is useful. This could also be a good idea for linking to forum posts.

Neat-o, thanks. I'm starting to use the message bookmark option now for short-term needs (hasn't worked ever until this year for some reason, or I was completely blind so far). However, for long term, I want it clean and can generally remember the person I was chatting with, but not the exact phrase for searching.

The other option would be to list all member x-refs per member (i.e., one link per member). I can see this as being problematic for oldies and trolls.

I know it's fun for Canuks to wind up Yanks but if there was a different default country (sayyy... Mongo) then it would be easier to tell which authors of really c**p articles haven't even bothered to fill in their profiles. No reason to blame the US for all of it!

We do try and set the country via a geolocation service initially but they are notoriously inaccurate. We also spotted a bug with this last week that we'll be fixing this week.
