A lot of times programmers need instant ( or wish an instant ) answer. A chat room would be great for this.
my two cents.

Yea, that would be nice. Or maybe just a codeproject IRC server...

Well...
I created a channle called "CodeProject"
type:
/join CodeProject
this channle is know (created on 19/08/01)
so don't be scared if it's a little empty.
I'm sure it will grow.

Hi!
Think the API (may be, not only Win32) forum would be very useful. At least for me.
Just now I have an API question, that I don't know where to drop.
(Pls, don't advise, where ! )

I manage cooking. It doesn't imply the cooking skill, isn't it?
And I wonder if somebody will answer seriously ?

OK, without long history - why and what for ...
I cannot find the conventional way (I mean API) to deal with the message file. Say, I've found the message file in registry, loaded it and have the module handle in the hand. I can extract the message by ID, but I cannot neither get the count of messages, nor enumerate them. For every thing there is workaround. But I prefer the conventional way to be more safe from possible changes.
Thanks in advance.

Gennady

Hi!
OK, I'll explain, sorry for long story.
I've created the NT service that in the case of error not only register event in the Application EventLog, but also may send this event by mail to the predefined SMTP address. In the configuration applet for this service I'd like to let the user to select, what events he/she wants to receive in mail. So I'd like to extract the list of events from the event source, registered in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Application\<service_name>\EventMessageFile.
I can extract the single event with FormatMessage, if I know the ID. But if I don't? The question is: How I can enumerate the events in the EventMessageFile? Sure I can do it "manualy" analyzing the message file structure. But I prefer something more safe in the case, they in MS will change the message file structure. And using API (if there is any) will save me from unskilled labour. I don't afraid to do such a work, but if I can avoid it ...
Thanks.
Regards,
Gennady

Well, if you work in C++, you can use the C++ forum...
I like the idea about a API forum though

I think it would be a good idea to setup a FAQ for the C++ Forum. It seems to me that there are tons of repeated question, it would be great to have a organized place to send people hunting.

I second that. However, I'm sure that there will be huge number of lamers who never read any FAQs. "Plz help me its urgent.... I can't
add two numbers using + operator!!!???!!!"

I think it would be great with a "MFC C++" forum, and a "Non MFC C++" forum.
I think the traffic in the C++ forum is very high, this way it would be shared between 2 forums, and it would be a whole lot more easy to separate all the MFC questions from all the plain C++ stuff...
Anyway, just my 2 cents
