Heh Yeah, the show started airing as a summer replacement about 2-3 months ago, but it caught on and it will be airing twice a week during the regular season.
And c'mon, Anne Robinson is hot.

Maybe, but the 50ish woman doing the show in Australia is far from hot.

Chris, I heard that programmers always count from zero instead of one. Why not including 0 as a score for rating articles on this site? This is probably more important than the gun control discussion.

I think you already know that:
- multiple authors don't get notified of message boards' new threads
- there's not a way to see which articles one have in common with another
I suppose this has to do with the database structure, but I just wonder if it would be too hard to fix that. It would be really nice

Multiple authors should get notified - I;ll take a peek and see what the problem is. As to fixing up the entire system properly, that is way up their on the priority list. I've been doing some behind-the-doors negotiating using copious amounts of as bribes and I'm hoping this will solve a whole bunch of issues.

Does that work for daily bugs too?

This function do not work, why...
CSpecialControl is derived from CWnd
BOOL CSpecialControl::Create(const RECT& rect, CWnd* pParentWnd, UINT nID, CCreateContext* pContext)
{
BOOL Oktemp;
//after this line hbm is null, IDB_BITMAP1 is a valid resource...
HBITMAP hbm = ::LoadBitmap(NULL,MAKEINTRESOURCE(IDB_BITMAP1));
//this work
CBitmap MyBitmap;
MyBitmap.LoadBitmap( IDB_BITMAP1);
//this work
Oktemp = CWnd::Create
(NULL,_T(""),WS_CHILD|WS_CLIPCHILDREN, rect, pParentWnd, nID ,pContext);
//this work, I can see the button and catch his command
Oktemp &= m_cBouton_1.Create
(_T(""),WS_CHILD |BS_PUSHBUTTON|BS_BITMAP|WS_VISIBLE ,CRect(0,0,16,16),pParentWnd,IDC_BUTTONGAUCHE);
//and the bitmap is never displayed on the button....
m_cBouton_1.SetBitmap(MyBitmap);
m_cBouton_1.ShowWindow(SW_SHOWNORMAL);
return Oktemp;
}

I guess you want a skinned button.
I found a source code here in "CodeProject".
It's a class derived from CButton that make create the button from resource bitmaps.
I'll bet if you search in the CodeProject for "skin button" or "skin CButton", you'll find it.
if not, email me and I'll send you by mail the source code.

Maybe a new section should be added to deal with questions about installation issues. The topic seems to come up often.

Attracted to the instantaneous display of selected messages, I was quite disappointed to discover that the "use DHTML" view option is not implemented in the archive distribution.
Are the archives out of date, or does someone have a fix for this?

I noticed that when I changed my user name, clicking on the little head icon (that shows up in the forums) no longer lists the articles I wrote. I'm not sure how difficult it would be to add, but it would be great to be able to have unique ID associated with each user, that way we could change any or all our setting but still have references to our articles.
cheers,

This is one of the best resources on the Net. Do you have any plans to archive the discussion threads on a CD or whatever. I am particularly interested in the C++ group. I am quite willing to pay for such a service and I imagine many others would too.
Have Fun!

It would be nice if ...
1) my answers on discussion boards wouldn't be sent by email to me
(I surely know what I've written )
2) we could have some more options for "my bookmarks", such as:
- displaying the current status of an article (updated, rank, etc.)
- being notified (by email) if an article gets updated
or its discussion board has new entries
- maybe a subsection with one's own articles (automatically added?)
What do you think?
Paolo.

Answers to your first suggestion
You are getting a copy of what you are posting because you are one of the following, the orginal thread poster or if the discussion is linked to an article, you own the article. This is done so thread starters and article authors don't have to be on the site to know that people are discussing in their articles or threads.
The only other way you will get a copy of your answer is if you have forgotten who you are and have started replying to your own postings. This is by design to keep those lonely people happy, but most unlikely.
Cheers,
-Erik

If I don't receive notification for this reply, my apoligies for suggestion n.1, but if, as I guess, I receive notification of this message, I'm legitimate to ask "why".
Even if I started the thread or if I'm one of the follower, I know what I've written and I don't need to be notified of my own messages.
What would be the purpose? The only one I see is checking if notification work, but not that I need to be informed.
This is not a complaint, however, I just asked if this was intended to be this way.
Paolo.

That comment about a chatroom got me thinking:
How about an IDE add-in that periodicaly checks to see if there is an urgent question that matches topics you would like to answer and gives you a means of sending an answer right from your IDE where you can utilize the IDE to compose the code snipits...
The add-in also would give you a quicker way to ask a question at the same time? Maybe even realtime collaboration for those really sticky problems...
Then, as an incentive for people to answer the Questions/Collaborate: Devise some means of recognizing the people that help others with give-aways and feature write-ups, etc...
Perhaps oneor more publishing co's would like to sponsor this thing if they get good exposure to the kind of code-smiths that realy spread the word of mouth advertising, and as a recruitment pool for new authors... hmm, maybe I SHOULD get some sleep I'm starting to make business sense!

oooooo, yes. A place where I could rant and whinge about Microsoft UI designs and be on-topic whilst doing it!

Hello,
Are you guys/gals going to support JSP? I've started using the Tomcat/Jakarta JSP server and I like it, but I was kinda hoping that you lot would create some documentation (a section) for it.
Also, anyone know where I could find some good documentation on how to get a JSP JDBC connection to Oracle working? I have managed to add the Oracle JDBC driver to my project, but I'm not getting very far with my connection to the actual database!?!?!
Thanks in advance

Greetings,
well, the subject more or less tells it all.
Its so annoying when I slide the mouse over to the left to click on another window, that stupid menu slides in.
I often then uses Alt+Tab to switch back, and that menu is there covering the articles.
So I have to click on it to get rid of it.
Anyone ?
