Agreed! I was just pointing it out to keep that in mind.
Maybe a hint to OP to either try to modify the question or add a comment to an existing answer would be sufficient.
Adding an answer to ones own question could also depend on points earned (Enquiry and Authority come to mind).

JSOP was talking about the ability to post an answer to your own question, not about accepting that answer or anything regarding reputation points. CP could easily programmatically make sure you get 0 reputation points for posting an answer to yourself (or accepting that answer). Though I think some of the most valuable contributions are by people who answer their own question... when they do so, it's like they've created a sort of tip/trick for anybody else with the same problem. Maybe make it worth less reputation points, but give some just for their effort. If somebody is going to game the system, there are ways to handle that already in place (e.g., the ability to delete answers).

I'm with you on this issue!
Of course there are always exceptions you can come up with. As I already pointed out to aspdotnetdev I don't think one should be able to accept the own answer.
Maybe own answers should be allowed after a certain grace period has elapsed and when no answers with a sufficient voting have been entered.
Is that an acceptable proposal?

We discussed this previously and our conclusion is that there's nothing inherently wrong with someone posting a question, waiting for an answer, and then when they find a solution (maybe elsewhere, maybe through trial and error) coming back and posting an answer in order to help others who may also have that question.

At least put an alert("Is this the answer/solution or comment(Any doubts regarding the answers)? If this is comment use the 'Add comment' link below the answers") while the Enquirer submitting Answers himself (But I didn't tried if already you put this alert) Chris. cheers.

I think it would be better to force them to edit their original question, and give them a way to indicate that they're posting a solution they found that isn't included in the answers already posted. The problem isn't that they erroneously get points for posting an answer - the problem is that they treat the question system as if it's a threaded conversation, and when they post answers in response to other people's answers, the people they're trying to respond to don't get a notification that the OP is trying to communicate with them.

As I have read in previous threads the recalculation of reputation points should be done by now. I'm still missing about 700 of those. Like where did they go? If the recalculation is still running please ignore my whining .

I was thinking the same!
(But about 1000 points light).

No, but I am sure #1 will be awakening from his tomb soon to inform us what the current state of play is.

Since you often use words that are not (yet!) part of my vocabulary you had me actually looking up "awaening".
OMG did I feel stupid when I realized you meant "awakening"

I lived in Germany (Dortmund) for a while.
I have a smattering of French and Spanish, a little Cantonese (Only verbal, can't read it).
Latin and Ancient Greek, I can read Ancient Egyptian Cartouche, and a smidgeon of Old and Middle English.

Ok, I asked a simple question and feel humbled once again.
I did have Latin and French in school but haven't had any chance to apply it seriously yet, especially Latin.

I find I use it mostly via science.
I am studying Evolutionary Biology, and find Ancient Greek useful for Physiogamy and Latin for Speciation.
About the only use left for them, other than appearing clever.

Hmmmmm, ya got me confused now Dave:
"Physiogamy means reading one's character by face and appearance"
What's that got to do with science? Sending me on a wild goose chase again?

Oh good grief.
Physiology!
What the hell is wrong with me today?

Show a little mercy, the poor chap just lost more than 1000 participant points, a platinum color, and about half of his vocabulary. A lesser person would be wasted, under the table, three sheets in the wind; Dave however is taking it with all the dignity that is left in him. And I trust he'll be back.

I remember the joys of translating Chaucer doing A-level English. The Canterbury Tales are far funnier in their original form, and it's amazing what a life Chaucer led. Spy, diplomat, playwright, lover...

Sadly, I only studied Latin. To this day, I still occasionally drop into "bam, bas, bat, bamus, batis, bant". This way me be why I find "Romanii eus Domunt" so funny.
