I'm looking at improving the forum Thread View. This will solve that issue.

I like that idea, there's certainly a lot of threads (not sports) that I'd want to minimize!
|
|
|
|
|
Exactly, it would benefit everyone.

Hey Chris,
I know John nags you about this regularly, but there's cricket coming up apparently and the sports posts have started again in the lounge.
This never bothered me before when I could use "thread view" as I could easily ignore posts with any kind of hint of sports in the subject.
Thread view doesn't work for me in the lounge any more, so now I fear that the sports threads will grow to fill whole pages of lounge posts (on normal layout) even tho I've maxed out the display to 50 posts per page.

Peter, there has been cricket almost continuously for 17 years, it is not a new phenomena.
Why would the boards be filled now?

By the way, all discussion of the India-England series will be in the General Indian Topics. I needed to post todays thread in the Lounge to draw the English members attention to the existence of the FL.
Seperate Sport Forum is not a good idea, and will de-value the Lounge ethos of 'a place that you can discuss anything that takes your fancy'. But I do have an idea that may suit all.

I've posted a reply to you on your cricket thread.
My real problem is that the thread view layout is broke, making it a bit more difficult to ignore the sports posts.
And I wanted to side with JSOP on this one.

I've got the thread view layout working by selecting "last month" in the "show" drop down, so we're all good now, I can easily ignore the cricket again.

You should be able to bookmark your own message, but I see what you mean about getting points for it.
However, I just tried it, and got no points.
It seems it is just you, or was it forum specific?

Hmm seems you'r right.
I guess someone with the same vote weight as me voted the message up at the same time as I bookmarked it.
What are the odds

Dear CodeProject.com,
Add this path to your site:
http://www.codeproject.com/Newsletter.aspx
and put a link to it in your Features menu.
Would make it simple enough to get to without having to do one of the following tedious actions:
a) open my email app, find the email, read it and/or click to open it up in a web browser
b) go to http://www.codeproject.com/script/Mailouts/Archive.aspx?mtpid=1 and then click on the topmost newsletter
Finally, this will allow us to bookmark http://www.codeproject.com/Newsletter.aspx and it'll always go to the most current newsletter.
You can also consider these paths:
http://Newsletter.CodeProject.com/
http://DailyInsider.CodeProject.com/
http://BecauseYerTooDangedLazyToDigALittleForTheWebPageYouAreAfter.CodeProject.com/
That last path, of course, would automatically read our mind and take us to the article, forum, or best page that provides the stuff we're after . . .
Thx,
GaryN

If someone had all 5 votes (similarly for 1) and at least one of something else, would that 4.99 eventually become a 5 or not? It would take 400 votes for that to happen, and I don't think I've ever seen that outside of an article. If you keep it floored, then you must use a ceiling for those less than 3.
|
|
|
|
|
If you have about 12+ 5s and a single 4, the 4 is auto-removed when calculating the average. It's a recent change Chris made. The official reason is that it makes the average fairer. The real reason is he wanted to try out his elite math and statistics skills on all of us
p.s. the 12+ example I used may not be accurate. In general the code removes all votes that are 2 standard deviations from the mean or mode or median (one of those).
|
|
|
|
|
Never did trust them outliers. Interesting change, is the 4 removed from the vote count as well as the average? Is that only for one outlier or on average a 12/1 ratio removes the bad ones (i.e., 24 5s and 2 4s)?

Where did it go?
Did I miss a memo or something.
I really liked this feature but seems to be gone now.

Hey, well spotted, I hadn't even noticed it was gone!
