Why does windows 10 detect my app as a virus?

It doesn't even connect to the internet.
this is it:
Text To Speech For Windows[^]

What I have tried:

It has a thing to convert text to mp3, and to order Windows to speak text, and listens globally to keystrokes that's all.
Listens only to certain keystrokes.

Solution 1

Viruses don't have to connect to the internet, viruses don't have to monitor keys.
And most virus detectors don't look for that kind of thing. What - exactly - they do look for is not information that virus detection systems are in the habit of giving out: for the obvious reason that virus writers would use it to "get around" the detection.
So we can't tell you why Win10 thinks your app is a virus; it may be that your PC is infected and the app EXE file is genuinely dangerous. We can't tell.
Only MS can tell, and they aren't going to tell us!
So contact them, and ask them to look into it. I can't guarantee they will, but it's about the only way you will remain get to find out what to do to fix the problem.

Of course not!
Ask yourself this: "Would I download an app that is advertised as 'possibly infected'?"
The answer for all sensible people is "No". I don't know if the detection is genuine, or a mistake - but I'm not taking the risk. The most likely reason is that it's infected because the PC you built it on is infected - and I don't want viruses on my PC: I go to some lengths to prevent them! :laugh:

No - I'm not about to start downloading things that are advertised as "having a virus", even if I'm not intending to run it. Why would I?
I have no idea where your site link goes, or what the heck I might find when I get there. OK, I have good backups, so it wouldn't be the end of the world if the site at the end was malicious, but I have good backups *because I don't want to have to use them*! :laugh:

I use NAudio reference, maybe that's the problem?

I removed NAudio class together with making an MP3 file capability and there's no "virus" anymore.

I figured out something, I didn't remove the reference from solution, only commented the "using" of it...

Solution 2

Addition to OriginalGriff's answer.

Create a basic "Hello World" app that only displays a text.
If that app is rejected as well, then your PC is probably infected with something nasty.

If not, then you need to analyze what could possibly cause the problem.
Maybe you are using some third part components that is outside of your control.

Sometimes it helps to strip away functionality one by one to see if the problem is still there.
In any case, you are pretty much on your own here.

I guess you have to find another library or report the issue to the developer.
