how to open pdf document in a html webpage

hi, i am new at html. I am try to create my website. I uploaded a pdf file and linked it on my webpage. Now on clicking the link the file gets downloaded. However, I want the link to get opened in a new webpage on that website itself, where the pdf file should appear in that webpage. But I am not able to do this. I don't know whether I have to convert the pdf file into html or have to use some other code. Please guide me.
