Maybe 10 years back, I published some shareware on download.com. They took care of everything.. a web interface took the parameters and setup.exe and created the trial-ware, (a locked, time limited copy that I could download), it handled the credit card transactions, and once in a while I'd get a check in the mail when it sold copies. I've just finished a serious bit of software, expecting this option, but it appears cnet no longer does this, (could be wrong, but that's what it looks like in the docs).

So.. are there any sites that do this now? (packaging and ecommerce built in)
Can anyone give me some pointers/recommendations on anything else I might need to know?

Thanks,
John

It's easier than ever to do this yourself now with PayPal, but there are still providers out there that offer payment solutions. I have used RegNow in the past (now MyCommerce: http://www.mycommerce.com/regnow[^]). I'm not sure if they offer a download (there's a bunch of solutions they offer that you'd need to research yourself), but they still offer a payment collection/registration service that will send you cheques.

Of course, if it's a Windows 8 application you can channel through Windows Store (similarly for Android and Apple).

Good luck!

I'm looking at Regnow.. but one of the main prerequisites is that they handle the key/registration part entirely on their own. With Regnow, you can provide them with a list of keys or a download to an un-locker, both really bad solutions.
Cnet had it right, their software was what actually ran, and unpacked your app from an encrypted .dat file, it handled the registration stuff end to end.. that is what I want. I'll take another look at the RegNow options though..

Andrei Gourianov (GoScreen) still uses them and he handles his own registrations. It might be worth contacting him for how he does that. I've always found him to be a good guy: http://goscreen.info/
