I am adding a column in crystal report by using formula fields but it is giving an error for this formula:

SQL

(sum({payroll1.eobi}))

Error message is:

If it's a formula then why did you say it was an error? Your error message is perfectly clear. The sum function takes 2 parameters and you only gave it 1.
