How to implement an instant messaging solution

Hi, I am a Junior Developer and I'm currently busy working on a website where I want to enable an instant messaging option (IM). I have no Idea where to start. Eventhough I have looked at a few examples I'm still clueless. Any help would be appreciated.

SQLConnection is not needed for IM so please be more clear on what you need and where you are stuck.

I realise my title doesn't match, I forgot to change it and when I went back to change it, I got an black page with three hamsters or whatever it is saying that there was an error. I'm making a website where I want the User to be able to send a mail (Message) to the other user and then the other user can reply to that message, kinda like the chat thing they use on Facebook

I also removed that part about the SQL connection and the string in your webconfig, as it was detrimental to the question at hand as it did not make any sense in its context whatsoever.

Not really a question. It looks like you expect some working plan for your with indications of techniques and resources to use, but such artifact would be a part of work, not an answer.
