Hello,
I have a Dell Inspiron 1318 laptop that came with two 1GB 2Rx16 PC2- 6400s-666 RAMs.
The problem is they're no longer working properly.. I've had some trouble when starting the computer, and sometimes it's too slow. I've researched and I also asked somebody and they say I should replace them. I got a two rams that where in someone else's laptop; a 2Rx8 PC2-5300-555-12 and a 2Rx16 PC2-5300-555-12. I replaced them both and my laptop wouldn't turn on. I understand that if I mix a 6400 with a 5300 this could happen but if I'm replacing BOTH to 5300, should this happen? IS it possible to do so? I know very little about hardware. Thanks in advance.

I can't find good motherboard specs on this computer. As long as the board handles that type of memory there should not be a problem. Do any lights come on? Is there any beeping?

I found one solution through googling that said to unplug the battery and plug the box in. If it comes on, then try setting the power settings to never shut off the laptop.... his was going into hibernate mode after changing the dim (wierd enough for me!)

Another would be put one ram in. If it does not come on, take it out and put the other one in.

It could be a number of things, including bad dim slots on your board. If it gives any lights or beeps you can find out what those mean in your manual.

Hope this helps.

Hey thanks, I didn't see this because is not posted as an answer. Thanks for taking your time though! I tried it again and it did work. I replaced both rams on December and my computer is almost good as new. :)
