getting latitude and longitude of place using web service

Hello every one
I am doing a project based on web management where a user send his source and destination place .Based on that i need to calculate the total distance of journey
and generate bill based on that .
So now i am trying to 1st get the latitude and longitude of source and then same procedure for destination then . Based on distance i will calculate the total fare of a customer.

So if anybody know how to get latitude and longitude or else know to get distance its self please let me know it ..
Can anybody guide me or else know some links or any suggestions.
I searched in internet it is telling it can be done by
WebRequest and WebResponse but i didn't got it properly

What exactly Web Service do you have in mind? They can be different...
