Creating different roles and assigning roles for a web application

Hi,

I am trying to develop a web based application which can have different roles and authentication with different functionality. I have already gone through the authentication part of it, But for role assigning and creation what are the methods and which method is more efficient and feasible, and why.

Thanks In advance. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Google form based authentication with role based security. You will find plenty of examples to deal with your question.
