I have no idea about Crystal Reports, but are you using bound parameters? Take care that if you do, they may be bound positionally unless explicitly told be bound by name (I've had the same problem with a C# procedure I was calling, and got the same error).

Why don't you simply disable the radio button while the balancing process is running? Provide a cancel button for the user to press if he does indeed want to cancel the process and change the balancing type, but after he presses the 'calculate' button, disable the radios.

Wait, let me sure I understand you correctly. You brought your solution at home, installed it on your home computer and run it from there, or are you simply connecting to your work computer using RDP and work via RDP?

You can try and take a look at regular expressions (even though MSSQL has very basic support for them, you can define your own). Using regexes, you could return only the numeric part of the VARCHAR column, and then use another query or subquery to do the the SUM of the returned numeric parts

As well as Wes' solution, you can try taking a look at the MS UI Automation Framework (.NET API). Assuming the other program wasn't written in Java (I've found that most of those don't expose their UI Automation IDs and properties), you'll actually get a .NET API allowing you to automate really large parts of the other application

You'd have to come up with a way of opening the dialog from the first AsyncTask and closing it from the second. It would be no point in opening the dialog from the first, closing it, and the doing the same from the second.

Also, as I've said before, you don't actually call both AsyncTasks concurrently, you wait for the first to finish before calling the second. And in this particular case yes, it might be better to call the second from the first's onPostExecute, as you wrote in your original question

First off, there's nothing wrong with calling an AsyncTask from an Activity.onCreate. I do that all the time.

Secondly, if I understood you correctly, you need to call an SQL Server twice from an Activity.onLoad, as well as an AsyncTask.
If the two are related (SQL Server call depends on the AsyncTask or the SQL call is in the AsyncTask), you should wait for it to finish (in the meantime displaying a "Loading" dialog), and in AsyncTask.onPostExecute do what you need to do.

So the flow would be something as follows:

1. Activity.onLoad
3. Show a dialog
2. call AsyncTask.execute
3. AsyncTask is finished - call the second AsyncTask
5. Second AsyncTask is finished - close the dialog
4. Do your thing

As for my recommendation from the previous solution, I'd suggest you make a method (public) in your activity that acts as a wrapper around the AsyncTask.execute call.
Then, in AsyncTask.onPostExecute, call the method in your activity to execute the task the second time

No, onLoad works only for a few elements on a page (body, script, and iFrame come to mind, maybe others, but definitely not table).

This being said however, you can definitely use <body onload="writeToField();">

You'll still have to find a trigger for the code to execute, and if you don't want a button, document.ready[^] event comes to mind (jQuery though, if that's not an issue).

Or if you don't want jQuery and you want pure JavaScript, there's also checking the ready state[^]

Yes, definitely. I suggested deleting that line because I was thinking of simplifying it a little bit as well as eliminating possible variable scope issues (Javascript variable is, well...pretty unintuitive), but if you want it in 2 steps, that would be ok as well.
