I guess No. See your control is server control so it has ClientID. See in the Debugger document.getElementById('textbox1') what it gives and then Set Beak point to the Load file(.cs) and then see the ID of textbox1 . I think then you will have clear understand of that. When you see the ID of text1 in Server(.cs ) file then you will see ID is different.

This code will work if you use html control but not to use and server tag like runat="server"
