Why is AS400duplicate a bad class name? Maybe it's referring to an IBM AS 400 computer that is the duplicate of the main running system?

I don't understand what you mean in that it doesn't change anything in graphics? Why would it need to? It's only the model. The view via the viewmodel takes the color set in Lane to work out what is the background color.

how do you get the actual color name that is being used by the brush? I've looked in a few places and can't see any method that tells me.

That isn't read only. you mean only enter info by mouse.

Not sure the actual code but you need to handle the keyboard events and make sure that the keyboard events don't do anything

Your problem is going to be serialiization of the bit map. You can't serialize Abstract classes unless you tell WCF what the actual classes it can expect are. The other way to do it is to use a BASE64 stream and write the image to that
