5. We currently use XP virtual machines for some development where the tools won't work on Windows 7. On a related note, to the OP, you may use
Disk2VHD

I personally prefer letting the database generate the ID. That way, you don't need to be inserting an additional "userid" column and worrying if it's unique or not. If you need to return the id generated, then you need to use a stored procedure for that.

Maybe your JS code has errors, that is why the control was not populated with the value. You can try debuggin your JS code with FireBug if you use Firefox, or other debugging tools for other browsers.

I'm not sure if that's possible, but if it is, it will not be a nice trick because basically, you will be doing a POST on the server for the screen resolution while executing the GET (Page_Load event). Why not do the button sizes on JS instead of doing it on the code behind? Are those dynamic controls buttons that will have the same size? If yes, there's a function in JS called getElementByClassName(). What you can do is create a CSS class that is exclusive only to those dynamic buttons and then calling that function will give you an array of those elements.
walterhevedeich
22-Aug-13 0:19am

I guess the problem with dynamic controls is that they tend to have a different ID when they are rendered on the browser. So the getElementById() function of Javascript may not be useful since you have to provide the exact ID of the control you want to manipulate. Unless you can confirm that the control ID is always the same when rendered on the browser, you can just use the said function in getting the control. Otherwise, I think you may want to implement Jquery on your application since it has more flexible DOM selectors.

You can only access through index if you have put all your textboxes in an array. As for the foreach statement, once you got the control inside that condition, just cast it to a Textbox control. And from there, you can just create another condition that will execute the code if that is the textbox that you want (i.e. you can probably check the name of each of the textboxes). I have to warn you though of possible performance issues because of the loop and the conditions.

Yes it's possible but you wouldn't to put that kind of functionality on your stored procedure. By doing that, it might affect the performance of your server, especially if you will have many users later on. Try to minimize your stored procedures to data retrieval and create an application that will do the conversion. My 2 cents.

That's a different issue, but the fix can be the same. Since you are now familiar with how values on a DataRow are accessed, you can check how your combobox is being populated. You might be populating it again with the the whole DataRow instead of just a specific column on it.

Your code is still not correct. selectedrow.ToString() will still return "System.Data.DataRow". DataRow objects can be compared to rows on the table. They also have columns/fields, and can be accessed either by index, or column name (ex: selectedrow["student_ID"] or selectedrow[0]). What I mean earlier was, you need to convert the field of the row to string, not convert the whole row itself.

You mean selectedrow["student_ID"] has a value? In that case, yes, you should convert it first to string, since its data type is initially object.

I agree with Sandeep, 175 columns in a table is a bad design, and you might want to rethink it, before it will get worse. Of course, we can point you out some things that might solve your error, but we might just be leading you to wrong direction by answering your question. So I guess the solution is not to solve your error, but to re design your database.

Your syntax is for Oracle, and will not work on SQL Server. I suggest you take a look at the answer below.

Are you using stored procedures to insert to User table? If yes, unless its a requirement for you to use triggers, you might want to add the insert to UserRole table to that stored procedure.

Nice suggestion. But I think this will require OP to install SQL Integration Services to his database server if he does not have it. In addition, in my opinion, it would make more sense to just create an SQL job if its not an ETL task, which is the purpose of SSIS anyway.

I'm not sure what your exact scenario is. I have googled and there are several articles which are pretty straightforward. You can improve your question by describing the things you have already tried and issues you have encountered. Otherwise, you'll only get answers containing URLs that you may already have visited.

Can you show the code on ProductDetails.aspx, particularly on the part where you retrieve your records? I'm suspecting you just need to include a WHERE condition on the query that pulls the data, so that only the item will be retrieved.

The database is only an example. You can use other data sources as long as all your applications are able to access it, through network(not necessarily with Internet connection). If you cannot make a setup like that, I believe there's no other way.
