This is some good news. Finally people who don't care about how many likes they get. Or is it just social media overload. Facebook can be quite a time suck. And, these days, people only want to hear what tickles their ears. Here in the US, there are still the wars of pro-Trump and anti-Trump. Interesting reading for a short while, but it starts looking all the same--blah blah blah.

I've been using Here WeGo for navigation in the car for years, and it works just fine.
But ... the world seems to prefer Google Maps these days, so I thought I'd give it a try.
And it's fine - the maps are nice and clear, the default voice is fine (unlike some I've tried) and the instructions are clear (if a little later than I'm used to, and not repeated when close - Here WeGo tells you what to do a good distance from the roundabout, and then reminds you just as you get onto it).
The map data seems fine - though the speed limits aren't up to date round here, unlike HWG's.
Only one thing is a little annoying. When you exceed the speed limit by x% (configurable) HWG gives you two "bongs" to let you know - you don't have to look away from the road to check your speed, just keep up with traffic until it complains and back off a little. And while I can find a speedometer display that shows red when I'm going faster than I should, I can't find any way to get told off! Anyone know what I'm missing?

A couple of years ago I bought my first new car in 30 years, and it has all the safety gizmos. Affectionately known as Bitchin Betty, she's faster than my wife at screaming at me. 
One thing that does annoy me - I pull into the driveway, cut off the engine, open the driver door to get out, and the car warns me that the door is open. Yes, Betty, I know.

When I switched from TomTom on my Windows Mobile devices to an Android phone, I had to find a nav app - and I couldn't find a way to use maps completely offline. These days, signal is a lot less patchy round here, so it's less of a problem - but back then phone was "ok-ish" and data was "d-what-a?".
Here WeGo is pretty good, once you get used to its user interface which doesn't take long. It was originally a Nokia product, before the MS takeover when it made good phones ...
But now that online is pretty much 24/7 round here these days it makes sense to look at live traffic re-routing and suchlike which maps provides. The speeding "bong" is a godsend on the motorway though, and I'll miss it if it isn't available.

Alot of people I know use Waze. It works quite alot like you describe but also crowd sources where the police might having a speed trap or where a slow down for some silly reason might be happening.
To err is human to really elephant it up you need a computer

Give them another decade to work on it. Them finally showing a speed limit at all is major progress (assuming you're not just lucky in where you tested it). They added speed limit data to a few small pseudo-random areas (one near google HQ, and IIRC 2 overseas) years ago, but never expanded beyond those test areas. They could spend a billion dollars to buy a startup to acqui-hire 4 or 5 key people (most of whom probably quit shortly afterwards, since they could've gone to a megacorp and named their pay if that's where they wanted to work); but apparently buying a data source was too much to ask for. It's lack has been a big part of why I'd paid for TomTom's android app for years (although my sub's died sometime in the last few months, since I'm not driving anywhere war enough to need it).

Have a look at Here Wego - I think this is it, it's just changed name again: Google Play[^] The UI takes a little getting used to, but it makes sense when you grok it. and it supports speed bong in two settings: below 50 mph and above 50 mph can be different (5 mph over if under 50, 10 mph over for example)
I do like it, but its traffic seemed a "bit late" last time I used it.
And it's non-subscription.

I'll maybe keep it in mind for next year. It's looking like all of my driving far enough to need map software events for this year might be cancelled.

I'm afraid there is no speed warning sound yet afaik.
Personally I have three different maps on my phone.
Here maps, because it works offline if you have the maps downloaded. I always keep it updated for vacation.
Google maps, well it can send destinations and routes between devices in a very easy way.
Waze, easily the quickest updates around. Quite aggressive rerouting. Has speed warning.

I use OSMAND+ (Open Street Maps for ANDroid, paid a couple of bucks for the premium version).
I normally run it silent, but it does have configurable visual and audio speed alerts.
The mapping of speed limits in these parts, anyway, is good. When they changed some limits along the highway here, the maps updated within a couple of weeks.
It doesn't have the live traffic alerts etc, but I use livetraffic.com for that. It's from the local traffic authority, and uses google maps as a base. Look it up before I set off, fire it up on the road if I look like running into a snag.
