MSOffice here ( - even if, well, the office is also good at it).
When I want to save a Word/Excel/PPt document using "Save As" and the filename prompt windows pops up, instead of keeping the current name of the document as a proposal for the filename it should be saved to, the proposal is overwritten by a random filename picked up in the open directory.
So if I have a document named "CurrentFile.docx" and I push the "Save As" button, I get "SomeRandomName.docx" in the editbox. If I want to reuse the current filename but save the file to another location, or simply quick version it, I have to retype the complete filename - AAAAARGH. Is it only me ? I have found no solution to this, our IT also has no solution.

I'm using Office 2019, and if I open a file, use "Save as" and "Browse" it gives me the original file name in the original folder.
What am I doing that is different?

Professional Plus 2016 - It is our workplace version, not sure what policies have been changed in the background.

We have 2016 Home & Student and never seen this problem. Also I cannot see anything in the options that would affect it.

I find Office Word 2016 uses the first 20 characters or so in the document as the suggested filename. Not sure about Excel.

That's the question. I have the same version at home, and there it works as expected. I do not know what is wrong at my workplace. Neither IT department. Colleagues have the same issue.

Here's a really interesting book I'm dipping into that captures that idea:

It's an APress book and because I'm an unlimited member (download content of all books for the year[^]) I can download it and check it out.
I didn't really know what a roguelike is so I like how nicely the author defines what a Roguelike is (screen shot of old roguelike on IBM PC[^]):
