If you want full source, I suggest advertising on the job site, or perhaps rentacoder. Be careful, some people there take jobs, then just come here and ask us to do the work for them.

By filepath, you mean the path to the file that is open in notepad ? No chance in hell that will work. The program itself may keep track of what files it has open, but the system doesn't care.
With notepad, you can read the text on the title bar, I believe.

I believe that articles exist on how to hook into notepad and add your own code to it. The process would be different for every program. If the standard file save dialog is used, that may be a hook too, but I doubt it. Your best bet really would be to watch the whole file system and watch when new files are created.

The only thing that's going to work is what I said already. A system wide file watch for new files will tell you if save as was used to create a new file. Overall, what you're trying to do, is pretty much impossible, but you can at least tell if a new file was created and work out what sort from the file extension.

Dear Christian Graus
Thanks for replay ..
for save as (any applicaion) what i have done is .....
at first i have hooked windows destroy event ..
when the window is distroyed, i am checking the window title as "SAVE As" if it so then i save the process id and (time) in a globel variable ...
then ..
when save as is done, file watcher event is fired there i am checking the new file name (getting the file name form e.Fullpath) with stored process id Window title ........ (and time)
i could not compare winth the newly created file Process ID with old process id .
i do not know how for this will work ....

gday all,
im having a problem with a C# application im developing.
the code is as follows.
...
namespace Keystore
{
public partial class FindKey : Form
{
public FindKey()
{
InitializeComponent();
}
DataSet ds;
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter da;
DatabaseHelper dataHelper = new DatabaseHelper();
DataRow dRow;
private void FindKey_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
string sql = "SELECT * FROM Key";
string name = "AllKeys";
da = dataHelper.getAdapter(sql, name);
ds = dataHelper.getDataSet();
refreshList(1);
fillcboProvider();
fillcboProduct();
}
...
...
namespace Keystore
{
class DatabaseHelper
{
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection con;
DataSet ds;
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter da;
public DatabaseHelper()
{
con = new System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection();
con.ConnectionString = "Data Source=.\\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\\KeyStore.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True";
ds = new DataSet();
}
public System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter getAdapter(String sql, String name)
{
da = new System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter(sql, con);
da.Fill(ds, name); *** Code 'finishes' the load after here ***
return da;
}
...
The code seems to be ending the "load" phase at the marked line (marked with ***)
theres no error message, the program doesn't hang or anything... It just seems to be stopping the load there and displaying my form without any data in it.
Has anyone had this problem before? Can anyone help me fix it?
Also, can anyone tell me if the MSDN forums are down? i can't get to them for some reason...
Cheers in advance!

I already replied but got an error.
I think you are utilizing your DataAdapter many times. The first time you are probably going to the end (first fill). If you call fill again, you will have no data.
Don't return your DataAdapter. Use only the DataSet.
|
|
|
|
|
Dont i need to call da.fill for each new query?
ie, if i want to have a query that gets all the data in a table i would name it and call it by its name.
or if i want a query that gets all the companies in the database id name it "companies" or something
etc etc.
|
|
|
|
|
Well, the way I see it, you created a dataapadter setting is query.
So, calling fill will execute it... and calling fill again will do nothing.
Is like opening the Reader and, after the end, reading again.
But I am not really sure, as I don't use DataAdapters and DataSets.

Can someone help me with my project on developing a IT Helpdesk?
my project includes:
- web based helpdesk for the end users.
-we have more then 1000 end users in our company.
-the helpdesk should enable users to lodge in any query or complain about having problem with their harware, eg, if the printer is not working.
-if users can not login to the system
-forgot their password or wants their password to be resetted and so on.
-they should be able to add their name, Id number, department,email address,date and time. Also there should be a column for official use only in which the IT administrator will fill in their name, the solution of the problem and the date and time it was fixed
-their should be a submit button which sends the copy of the form to the IT administrator. Then the IT administrator will have to fill in the official column and the form will be saved i the system for future refernce.
i am trying to use C# for the first time for this project.
Can someone tell me how to start with this project since this is my first project after i have joined this It department this month.
|
|
|
|
|
Well I would begin by learning C#.
Start by resetting what you think your project is and start writing down guidelines and requirements, things like a 'column where the IT administrator can enter solutions!' is not beneficial to the project. Start laying out logic on paper before you move on to designing a database, forms, picking out a design pattern etc.
As for help from anyone here, you might want to get more involved with your own project and post specific problems about your project as you get to them.
PS if it's web based, try the ASP.NET forum.

Thanks alot..i have been given gud sites for beginning with my C# learning..its helping me a lot..i ahve started putting things together in my SQL database..just the front end was a bit difficult..

What have you done to improve your position in the six days since you last asked this ? Have you bought a C# book ? I personally think you need to find another job, your boss is a moron, however, if you're stuck there, you can post this every week until you get fired, or you can roll up your sleeves and start working.

No, you are logged in as the same user, I was able to confirm that it was a repost by viewing your posts on your profile. That's how I worked out you posted this 6 days ago. You're either lying, or you really are not very good with computers at all, b/c you didn't create a new account, you logged in to your old one.
