How To Authenticate Clients to printing From Server Using ASP.NET C#
hello
i have one server in which the printer is installed, the clients are printing from server. So, i want to authenticate those clients before printing using asp.net?
can anyone give me idea or code for print authentication from client computer to server?

You totally missed the concept. AFAIK, ASP.NET can't print anything. It's handled by the browser where the pages are displayed.

hello brother navaneeth
i am talking about print authentication using asp.net
means if in server client architecture of any company,
clients are printing from any type of application like
word, power point, excel or even from web browser,
i want to stop them to printing unlimited prints,
one asp.net application is currently running, clients logins are also available in it, so using those login i want to give rights for printing.
i am talking about system printing from any application and authenticate them using asp.net application.
if it's possible?

As I said, you can't do this with ASP.NET. It is a server side scripting language which emits HTML tags to the browser. You can't set permissions to a printer using ASP.NET. Also the printing is handled by your browser, not ASP.NET. ASP.NET just renderer the tags into appropriate HTML and sends to browser via HTTP/HTTPS protocols. Buy a beginner level ASp.NET book and learn how it is working.

You are welcome.
ashish bhakhar wrote: but i want to system programming using asp.net

Nope. ASP.NET is for web development.

That sounds strange. If you were an expert level programmer, you won't post such an odd question.

Navneet:If you were an expert level programmer, you won't post such an odd question.
Ashish: U R right. But, this is the requirement of our client, through their web app, they requires printing authentication using this.
And this is one type of challenge for me to give them best from my side.
i am looking forward about this problem,
that three things can help me
1) timer
2) threading
3) spooling & shell32.dll
currently i am looking on these three things to develop 'print auth' app.
u can focus on these thing and can make any sol
So, if u can find ur best, then it's 'hats off' to you from my side.
thank you.

Well, your job, if you have any idea at all, is to educate your client on technical possibilities. The fact that you ask the same questions here over and over b/c you don't like the answers, shows you are far from an 'expert'.

If you had the slightest clue about how ASP.NET works, you'd know why these things are not going to help you. I second the recommendation that you buy a beginners book on ASP.NET and read it. You can run a .NET control inside the browser, but I doubt even then you can get that sort of access to the system. It's possible that would work, but it means your users will need to give your site full trust. At this point, your code would have nothing to do with ASP.NET, obviously.

Just redirect (Response.Redirect(filename) ) to file would do that.

how to convert html,pdf,xml into doc

Obviously not an ASP.NET question.
HTML/XML, paste into Word. PDF, buy a library.

Expanding CG's answer, use XSLT to style your XML file and save the output as doc extension.

It's because you have some issue with your configuration. If you tell us the error you get and show us what's going on, I'm sure we can be more specific.
ASP.NET 2.0 is very different from 1.1 tho. And, the machine you're browsing to needs to have IIS configured to use 2.0, not 1.1.

U can try this.
Check your project's Property in IIS then lookout for Version of ASP.NET
Now if u want to run the project for VS2005 then set ASP.NET version to 2.0.

I changed a way of storing user information from many session to one session object with storing a class into that session.
I have a class like:
public class UserInfo
{
string _username;
int _id;
bool _somePermission;
...
and so on
}
When user logs in and if user have all necessary permissions, I create a new instance of a UserInfo class
UserInfo user = new UserInfo();
And then read user permissions, from database, for every page on a site and store it in each property that correspond to
user.Username = dataReader["username"];
user.ID = dataReader["id"];
user.SomePermission = dataReader["some_permission"];
And finally, store that class into session like
Session.Add("UserInfo", user);
On every page, where I need information from session, I do
UserInfo user = (UserInfo)Session["UserInfo"];
And then use
user.Username, user.ID or user.SomePermission
But, theres something wrong about it.
When I try to compile it, I get an error (marking Session)
An object reference is required for the nonstatic field, method, or property 'System.Web.UI.Page.Session.get'
I am missing something, thats for sure, but I don't know what.
Anyone would help me with this?
Thanks in advanced.

Are you doing this outside the events, I meant on the declarative part of the Page Class? Session object get initialized after the Page Init event. May be you are try to assign the Session value to your class before the Page Load like,
UserInfo user = (UserInfo)Session["UserInfo"];
protected void Page_Load (object sender, EventArgs e){
}

Yes. I was doing outside the events.
Thank you for your reply and your time.
If I asked later, I would save some time figuring out what went wrong .
And thank you Navaneeth for a tip about casting.
Best regards and thanks both of you.
