I don't see any way to change the "start in" value in Vista. In any case there must be a way to change the default directory programmatically.

If I understand you correctly, the following should work:
System.IO.Directory.SetCurrentDirectory("c:\myfolderpath")
Hope that helps.

Hi Ray,
Totally helps. What I really needed, which I figured out thanks to your message, was:
System.IO.Directory.SetCurrentDirectory(Application.StartupPath)
I knew it had to be simple!

I have a frame on a form (actually the frame is on a tab of a tab control). On the frame is a control (command button) At run time I want to load more controls, but I want them to appear on the frame, they end up on the form (behind the frame)
even bring to front does not work, any ideas?
Loading and such works fine, they just show up behind everything on the form.

What control collection are you adding them to? The form or the frame (groupbox)?
Wait, I'm not supposed to respond to your questions anymore since I'm overly harsh with you.

Why are y'all so harsh on me? I am just asking for a little help?

Personally I don't think anyone was harsh on you, I reviewed your past help and found that jon_boy wasn't harsh to you at all and your reply was unwarranted to him, so I merely am showing him some support here.
You might want to review your attitude, if someone doesn't post you the exact answer you where looking for doesn't mean they didn't contribute their time and knowledge in an attempt to help you. Sometimes the best advice is a shift in design pattern or implementation, not just figuring out how you want to do the way you want to do it.
Hope this helps you in your future posts here.

Post the code that you're using to add controls the groupbox. Ensure that you're adding the controls to the control vs. adding them to the form.

Jon_boy, Your initial response was enough to get me where I needed to be, I did not realize I had to add them to the control vs. the form. .net is starting to grow on me at this point, you can do some neat things, and it makes sense the way most of them work.... once I get my head out of vb6 mode that is
Regarding previous posts I was bothered by the comment I was posting the same question, It was not the same question. If an apology is on order, I apologize. Either way, thanks for your help.

if ya have vb 2008 then do this
yourcontrol.setbounds(the values must be of inside the frame)
frame1.controls.add(yourControl)
yourcontrol.show
hope this helps

Try adding the control to the frame
if yor frame is frame1 then write:
dim tmpctl as new windows.forms.button
frame1.controls. add(tmpctl)
tmpctl.visable=true

How can I create a setup for a VB6.0 application which uses the MS SQL Server as database? Can anyone help me? I want to run a setup by which the sql server will be loaded with the database and tables along with the application.

I can't believe people still deploy VB6 apps..... It's the stone age.
You need to install SQL Server, and either attach a DB you deploy, or run scripts to create it.

I am just fresher to programming. May I use the MSDE service for creating the database?

That is even worse.
Sometimes there are legacy apps in VB6, but as a n00b you should get VB.Net
It is a freeby download as express, and is both supported here and supported by MS with easier controls for nailing on a database and other functionality.

Well said, but to add, VB.Net is by far extremely more beneficial to the beginner due to it's simplistic syntax and readability. Starting off with a depreciated language will lead to bad practice and poor customs.
You will round yourself off to be a better programming with vb.net and if you ever make the jump to other programming languages the practices you learn from VB.Net will be extremely valuable.

As someone else said, then it is pure idiocy for you to use VB6. Has a class made you learn this ? It is a terrible language, and it's unsupported. You should move to VB.NET.
In answer, you can use MSDE as a database server, but you still need to attach or script your database to it.

Hello,
i want to design my Panels like what we have on the right hand side when we open mycomputer.but the problem is at bottom panels,i've used 5 diff panels,2buttons one on panel3 and the other on panel5.
when iam clicking on up arrow button1(which is on panel3) to hide(unexpand) the labels of panel2 i want that panel4 and panel5 should move up next to the panel3 and hide the labels of panel2..
here is the code..
button1.click
If expanded = True Then
expanded = False
Button1.Image = ImageList1.Images(1)
Panel2.Height = Panel3.Height
'Me.Panel5.Height = Me.Panel5.Height - 35(Here there should be code which will move my panel5 up)
'Me.Panel4.Height = Me.Panel4.Height - 68((Here there should be code which will move my panel4 up)
Else
expanded = True
Button1.Image = ImageList1.Images(0)
Panel2.Height = oldheight
'Me.Panel5.Height = Me.Panel5.Height + 90(Here i want my panel5 to get back to their original location or height)
'Me.Panel4.Height = Me.Panel4.Height + 144(Here i want my panel4 to get back to their original location or height)
End If
Anyone specially MVP Plzzz Help me...

The way that the Explorer Bar in My Computer works is different to the way that you are trying to do it.
In My Computer clicking the button on Panel 3 hides the content of panel 3, it does not hide panel 2.
Do you want to continue doing it the way you are, or do you want to do it like the ExplorerBar actually does it?

OK.
This could take a long time, because it is quite complicated.
All of the ExplorerBar implementations I have seen have a Control that acts as the host for the XPPanels. It is this Host control that maintains a list of it's XPPanels and organizes them when one shrinks or grows.
It goes something like this.
The XPPanel Control has an event (just for this explanation I'll call it PanelSizeChanged).
The host control overrides the OnControlAdded method something like this
Protected Overrides Sub OnControlAdded(ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.ControlEventArgs)
MyBase.OnControlAdded(e)
If e.Control Is XPPanel Then
newPanel As XPPanel = e.Control
Me.panels.Add(newPanel) ' panels is a collection in the host control for keeping track of XPPanels
AddHandler newPanel.PanelSizeChanged, New XPPanelSizeChangeHandler(AddressOf Me.SizeChangeMethod)
' and whatever else needs doing
End If
End Sub
Now whenever a XPPanel changes size the host runs the SizeChangeMethod. In that method it starts with the XPPanel that changed (the sender from the ByVal sender As System.Object parameter), finds its index in the panels collection and makes a note of where its bottom is (something like lastBottom AS Int32 = panels(index).Bottom ).
Then it gets the next XPPanel and sets its top to be lastBottom plus whatever you choose as the gap between panels, after that it sets lastBottom to equal the bottom of this XPPanel. Then it gets the next panel, repeats the above until it has dealt with all the panels.
If you do not know how to raise Events or create EventHandlers, you will need to do some research on that before proceeding.

Dear All,
Our requirement is a cab has assigned to Pick and Drop the employee for each and every shifts for the selective date. So, we need to show how much distance a cab has travelled, then we need to show that cab has been assigned for Pick/Drop for all the selective date.
As per my Procedure we can get the "Shift Date Time", "Cab No", "Pick/Drop" value, etc....
In Range chart I need to show the "Shift Time" in "X Axis" like "9 AM", "10 AM", "11 AM".....upto Next day "8 AM".
then In "Y Axis" I need to show "Shift Date Time" & "Cab No." which come from table.
In "Y Axis" i can not show the "Shift Date Time", So, I tried to show in "X Axis", but I can show only shift Date not time.
Actually I need to show the shift date in "Y Axis" only.
If any one have the solution, Please reply me.
Thanks in Advance.

Hello, I like to make a simple application which can execute mail-merge that I've made before using ms word. The application load that document, then I can fill the merge-field from the datagridview in vb.net. Can someone help me, I need some references or maybe final source-code. I've searched through google, but I couldn't find it. Projects that were found there using database as the datasource (not datagridview).
Thanks,
