Yes, that worked.
It also had the effect that I didn't read your post at all.
But, yes, you got my attention. Did that help?

How do I detect whether or not javascript is active via the use of the code behind.

The code behind runs on the server so you'll probably find it difficult (read: impossible) to detect client-side capabilities.
|
|
|
|
|
The only way to detect if Javascript is available is by using Javascript.
Add a Javascript to the page that does something, for example navigate to a different page. If that doesn't happen, then Javascript is not available.

system.web.httprequest.browser[^]
There is an Javascript property which tells you whether the Requestor's browser is Javascript compatible.
Not sure how accurate it is tho.
|
|
|
|
|
That value is based on the user agent string that the browser sends, and it only reflects if the browser is capable of Javascript, not if it's actually enabled.

Hi Guys I am trying to generate a random footnote everytime a page inside my site is loaded.
Trouble is my randomiser keeps staying with one index basically not doing anything
Please help!!!!
Heres my code for my Footnote:
private void SetFootnote()
{
try
{
SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(SqlDataSource1.ConnectionString.ToString());
conn.Open();
//Get the row and read into dataset
string query = "Select * From Footers;";
SqlDataAdapter adapter = new SqlDataAdapter(query, conn);
DataSet data = new DataSet();
adapter.Fill(data, "Footers");
conn.Close();
//Get a Random footnote and set
Random ran = new Random(0);
int rowIndex = ran.Next(data.Tables[0].Rows.Count - 1);
string footer = data.Tables[0].Rows[rowIndex][0].ToString();
FootNote.InnerHtml = footer;
//Close Connection
}
catch (Exception)
{
}
}

You are creating a new Random object and feeds it the same random seed every time, so it will produce the same number sequence every time. Just don't supply any seed at all, and it will create a seed from the system timer.
Random ran = new Random();

Or to generate a truly uniuque number I can use the following random declaration
System.Random objRandom = new System.Random((int)System.DateTime.Now.Ticks % System.Int32.MaxValue);
Thank you

You don't need a more unique value than the system timer that the parameterless constructor uses.
If you need better randomness than the Random class offers, use the random generator in the System.Security.Cryptography namespace.

I just tried to look what's ASP.net & web development. Damn I created virtual directory for the project in IIS and everything's fine but when I try to create a new project it throws webserver reported the following error when attempting to create or open the web project located at the following URL:http://localhost/MYPROJ'. HTTP/1.1 500 Server Error'.
What I tried in .net command prompt :
1. ASPNET_REGIIS -i
2. iisreset
3. aspnet_regiis -s w3svc/1/root/myproj. [edit]
Nothing worked.
I have framework 2.0 installed , but I'm trying with VS2003. Any problem with that?

Press: 1500 to 2,200 messages in just 6 days? How's that possible sir?
Dr.Brad :Well,I just replied to everything Graus did and then argued with Negus for a bit.

Visual Studio 2003 creates applications for framework 1.1. When you install VS 2003 it should also install framework 1.1 if it's not installed, but IIS might not be properly updated depending on the order you installed them.
Try running aspnet_regiis -i from the framework 1.1 folders.

It doesn't work. I tried this already. What about the IP address of the default website? Should we leave it "unassigned" ?

If you've run regiis from the 1.1 folder, then you should create your application in VS2003, then you can set up a project in IIS and point it to the folder. If you use VS 2005, it has it's own web server built in.

I'll try that but I think I should go for VS2005 for lesser hassles.

VS2005 is VERY different, so I'd recommend learning it, just because it's 'new and improved'. If you want to learn it for work, you should probably know both, just in case.

Have you opened the Error Console, so that you would see any error message that might occur?
