I've been dealing with this myself for quite some time. Though some people may frown upon the practice of using iframes, sometimes it is the only (or at least the most sane and feasible) way to "interface" two standalone software systems. Also, there is rumor that IFRAME may become deprecated, but the jury appears to still be out on that. So, it's a good thing to start examining alternatives now.
That said, here is an article that may interest you:
http://www.w3.org/TR/WD-frames-970331[^] - The most pertinent part is about halfway down. It's a bit technical, but worth the read.
Here are more links that may help:
http://intranation.com/test-cases/object-vs-iframe/[^]
http://www.thescripts.com/forum/thread568067.html[^]
http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum21/6539.htm[^]
http://www.456bereastreet.com/archive/200612/dump_iframes_and_use_object_elements_instead/[^]
Second Method is described below.
The use of iframes is an ongoing controversy. Are they good? Are they bad? I can honestly say I’m unbiased on this. I feel that iframes aren’t necessarily bad, but that there are alternatives that allow for better accessibility and greater search engine optimization. This is a mini-tutorial (hardly any work at all) dealing with CSS and XHTML which will allow you to create the same effect that comes with the standard iframe.
To start off, all you’ll need to create your ‘iframe’ is a DIV layer, and a cascading stylesheet linked to the source (optional).
Step 1: Create your div.
<div>Paragraph or two of text here....</div>
Step 2: Add the styles to the div.
This is fairly simple. If you don’t have a stylesheet linked to the source, or have a style section in the head at the top of your source, you can simply add the following attribute to the div element.
<div style="overflow:auto; width:200px; height:200px;">Paragraph or two of text here....</div>
If you’re using a linked stylesheet or have one in the head at the top of your source, define the div with the following (NOTE: I am using the div class ‘iframecopy’ with this example so you’ll have to add class=”iframecopy” to the div attribute for it to work.):
div.iframecopy {
width: 200px;
height: 200px;
overflow: auto;
}
That’s it! What you typed simply says that once the text reaches a height of 200px, the famous iframe scrollbar will appear, allowing the div to stay at the specified height and still contain more text than that which it would ordinarily allow.
There you have it! An iframe copy, using a single div and a little bit of CSS, without the mess of unecessary attributes that are needed to make the iframe practical.
If you want to go even further with this, you can use PHP ‘includes’ to get the ‘target’ feature that comes with iframes and links used together. I hope this opens your horizons a bit, while still allowing the functionality of the recognized iframe.
Just FYI - I know AJAX is big now, but, among other things, I do have concerns over cross-browser compatibility issues involving XMLHttpRequest (I think this may be Microsoft-specific, so not sure how this would work across all the modern browsers now available, i.e. Mozilla-flavors, FireFox, Opera, etc.). Again, not sure, but it is cause for pause. As a matter of fact, I read this http://www.phpclasses.org/blog/post/51-PHPClasses-20-Beta-AJAX-XMLHttpRequest-x-IFrame.html[^] not long ago at PHP Classes where the experts there decided to support Iframe and not AJAX for several reasons.
Hope this helps!

Thanks all for your inputs.. I ended up using an OBJECT tag with data attribute pointing to the desired URL. This works smoothly in all browsers except IE
Right now searching for fixing this for IE.
<object type="text/html"
data="http://www.mywebsite.com/mypage.aspx" style="width:xxpx;height:xxpx; border:none" border="0">

Hi,
I am implementing url rewriting in my website by using urlrewriter.net(Intelligencia.UrlRewriter) and i am facing problem when i click for second time display of products.
in my web.config i have written
<rewriter>
<rewrite url="~/Products/(.*)" to="~/Products.aspx?CategoryId=$1"/>
</rewriter>
And my href fro product is given as:
<li><a href='Products/" & intCategoryId(222) & "'>" & strMenu(laptops) & "</a>"
First time I am getting path as:
http://localhost/intelligencia/products/222
In second click I am getting
http://localhost/intelligencia/products/products/800
but i want it as:
http://localhost/intelligencia/products/800 for every product i click.
|
|
|
|
|
The problem is thre relative link for the Product:
<li><a href='Products/" & intCategoryId(222) & "'>" & strMenu(laptops) & "</a>"
You'll want that to be rooted to the application path:
<li><a href='" & Page.ResolveUrl("~/Products/") & intCategoryId(222) & "'>" & strMenu(laptops) & "</a>"

Thanks Martin it's working.Thanks once again it help me a lot.
|
|
|
|
|
It ran successfully but the main condition is that instead of categoryid display in url I want the name of that product but search will be through categoryid only and it should not display in url
Currently it is:
http://localhost/intelligencia/Products/222
But I want it like
http://localhost/intelligencia/Products/Laptops
and the name coming with spaces should be replaced with '-' as:
http://localhost/intelligencia/Products/External-Drives

Dear all,
I have a dedicated server window 2003 and it got hacked by someone. I could not understand how it happened. then I changed all password to access my server. Now On every two or three days my asp.net project's bin directory or other files got deleted I just could not understand how and who is playing this game with my server.
I am very disappointed with such activity.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Rohit

hello all
I have taken a variable (int) having value as 100.
Now I want to convert that value into Datetime in 1 minute 40 seconds a form.
could anyone tell me how to convert the static integer value into datetime value sp that i could use that value in my project??
Thanks in advance

Why don't you create your own method with the logic of getting time out of given minutes?
Using all the known things like... 1 day=24 hours, 1 hour = 60 min, 1 min=60 sec... you can do it!
|
|
|
|
|
I have taken ajax timer control and in the "timer1_tick" event,its time interval is 1000 meaning that it will tick every second
Now, my code is
class abc
{
static int countdown = 100;
protected void page_load()
{
}
timer1_tick()
{
countdown--;
label.Text = countdown.ToString() + "seconds remaining";
}
}
Now I want that label.Text should display 100 as 1 minutes 40 seconds
after 1 tick
it should display 1 minute 39 sec..
after 2nd tick
1 minute 38 seconds
and so on...
for that I want 100 value in the datetime.
plz help

It's even easier to get the time in seconds or minutes by writing your own custom function
|
|
|
|
|
could you give one example for that
|
|
|
|
|
Its very simple buddy.
int min = 100/60;
int sec = 100%60;
just do like this.

Do you really want a date and time? I think what you are seeking is a TimeSpan.
TimeSpan x = TimeSpan.FromSeconds(100);

I am trying to create a website in asp.net with multiple navigations links. A sample of the same in .asp is:
Define a variable on the homepage:
<%
Dim varSection
varSection = Request.Form("varSection")
If varSection = "" Then
varSection = "Home"
End If%>
And then call frm an include file as:
<% If varSection = "Home" Then %>
Display this content
<% End If %>
<% If varSection = "Abt" Then %>
Display this content
<% End If %>
Likewise, I seek help with the right syntax in asp.net as above.
Currently my homepage in asp.net just has the following code:
<%@ Register TagPrefix="MY" TagName="top" src="includes/top.ascx"%>
<%@ Register TagPrefix="Page" TagName="left" src="includes/left.ascx"%>
<%@ Register TagPrefix="Header" TagName="right" src="includes/right.ascx"%>
<%@ Register TagPrefix="Hdr" TagName="bottom" src="includes/bottom.ascx"%>

You can do it in many ways, the simplest would be to do it with javascript. Just add the contents in div tags, set the display property on the click of the links using javascript.

Thanks Dinesh for the reply. It would be really helpful if you can provide me with a sample code in review of the .asp code I submitted. I am a just a newbie & not well-versed with the correct syntax.

As Dinesh said, there are many ways to do this. Unless design considerations make it too difficult, my preference is to use HyperLink controls on the page and set their properties in the page's PreRender event:
Protected Sub Page_PreRender(ByVal sender As Object, _
ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
Dim varSection As String = Request.Form("varSection")
Select Case varSection
Case "Home"
With Link1
.NavigateUrl = "Go here"
.Text = "Home"
.ToolTip = "Go Home"
End With
Link2.Visible = False
Link3.Visible = False
Case "Abt"
'Etc.
End Select
End Sub
Another way of doing it would be to put static links on Panel controls, with only one visible depending on the value of varSection . When the page gets rendered, controls with no visibility are not added to the output stream so you don't need to worry about adding bloat.
Can't help you with @Register as I've never had to use it. Our registration info is in web.config .
