I have found that the less breaks I take the less time I have to spend in this god-foraken town.
I commute two hours one way to a stinking hell-hole, which I guess is better than starving in my jobless blackhole of a home town.
So yeah, no breaks.

Let's just say, avoid Shreveport Louisiana and the surrounding ArkLaTex area.

Being the optimistic pessimist that I am, I'm sure it won't LOL. But it's all good in the end. I love my job at least.

Funny, I'm in Baton Rouge and my love for this city has all but vanished. Look at the upside, at least you're not in DeRidder or Leesville.

"all but vanished"? does this mean you love it more than ever or love it less than before?
I actually love my home town, my family is there, but there just isn't a demand for technical writers.

Less. I moved to New Orleans for a bit, but when I came back it just wasn't the same.

Ah, well, at least we can cook down here.

New Orleans, it isn't the same anymore either.
Oh well, you guys have your mudbugs, we have our razorbacks and Shreveport has it crime...somewhere there is a happy balance, I just hate the drive :P

Yeah, it's not the "always open" type of place it used to be.

If you makes you feel better, I used to have to commute across lake pontchartrain. And yeah, I'm not gonna lie, that sucked.

One company I worked for had a sub-company in Shreveport. When we merged they came up here. Basically, they didn't like our procedures...or any IT procedures for that matter. Guess their 'free-n-easy' philosophy about life also transferred over into their work as well. Plus, their work-place environments down there must've been like the 1950's as far what was appropriate to say in the workplace. Needless to say, they had to go through some 'adjustments'.

I totally know what you're talking about when it comes to "appropriate". I don't think that had much to do with an era as it had to do with home training and the lack there of.
I was raised down south and I know better what to say in public vs what can be said candidly among friends--not that I use such language, "I'm just sayin'" :P

Micro-management gets antsy when I'm not at my desk typing something, the less scrutiny I have on me, the more productive I tend to be.
So when I do get out early on Thursday evenings they don't tend to say much because I've managed to cram 100 hours into 8 days.

So long as I'm around during most of the standard and wind my own clock (the one big plus of being a contractor).
Typical full week is 4 9hr days in which I don't take a lunch break, and then, a lovely half day every Friday for an extend weekend. This 41.5 hrs is mitigated by various holidays, or if I need to take time off (Doctor, Dentist, Vacation, Trist, etc), for none of which I am paid.
Within the 9hr period, I may go on coding-binges for hours on end (as do so many of you). When the problem is solved [or the brain starts to loop], I stop, search for a beverage, visit those using apps I developed (to get feedback before something can go awry): pretty much anything to break the concentration (and thus the loop). And, of course, there's visiting CP.
But actual breaks? Every day is unscheduled. Coffee or tea is something to reach for, robotically, whilst working.

It depends to how many cups of coffee I drink a day (Hint: Each cup needs at least 2 breaks )

Morning.
I have an 1 hour break and 2, 15 Minute tea breaks.
As much as that sounds great, there isn't much to do if you don't have an appointment to pick up your car or go to the bank.
I get very irretated if I have nothing to do, therefore I never take my breaks. Instead, I leave earlier and expect no one to complain as i only leave half an hour earlier.
This saves me some traffic and I keep busy the whole day. I use to complain, that we only had half an hour a day lunch and fought a grusome battle to get this hour and a half, and only to realize that it was actually useless in my case.
Not taking a break, except for making some cofee twice a day and when "nature" calls in exchange for one and a half hour traffic that i miss, I dont think this is such a raw deal.
Cheers
