There is a bug with your code. You forgot to assign the result of the conversion to a variable, so if you are the one who coded the payroll app in your company, your holidays are gone!!!

I get eight paid holidays and about three weeks of PTO (vacation), how am I supposed to answer?

I think they are after the PTO days. The paid holidays you refer to are what we call Public Holidays, the poms call Bank Holiays.
