I like how when they're working on a complex situation, (for instance: identifying & locating a culprit via video cams throughout the world and facial recognition databases that are located on any agency in the world; determining where the nuclear device will be targeted), they can solve it all with just five seconds of finger rattling on the keyboard.
Imagine what your customers are thing when you tell them it's going to take you a half-hour to fix a flaw in a crm program?

In the movie Electric Dreams, the clueless user when presented with the connection message "How much memory?" (Old systems wanted you to allocate RAM) He types in "All of it" and his 1200 baud modem becomes an infinite baud modem and overheats.
I'll gloss over the part where he cools it with champagne and the information overload (on an Apple II-like clone) makes it sentient, because it is a fun movie (although it is more music video).

Don't see it much anymore, but remember when software could sharpen pictures from security cameras so that blurry licence plates could be read with such unbeleivable clarity.

Worst hacker line ever, I think, from Jurassic Park. She sees a 3d graphic of a file system. "This is Unix, I know this!" To be fair though, Newman's rant about why he was worth more money was pretty technically good. There were actually Connection Machines in the background.

I was once asked to review a TI-99/4 computer for a store I had been reviewing HP calculators.
The manager said I did everything but drag up a chair to stand on to get some elevation to p!ss on it.
I programmed my HP-67 and the TI-99/4 to do some SIN functions and the calculator was faster.
But the slow display and beeping screen was a total joke. I could see the beeping, I'm sure marketing thought it was a requirement. However the story I heard (unconfirmed rumor) was that an executive objected to text display speed as too fast to read, and insisted it be slowed down.
When we heard TI was entering the personal computer arena with a 16 bit processor while the rest of the world was using 8 bits, we thought it was going to quickly dominate the market. Too bad they didn't let the engineers do their job.

the programmer can be typing away at around 150 wpm and there are no windows on his computer that are accepting text input but a bunch that are scrolling data and none of them appear to be doing anything specific to his needs.
If you know what I mean...and I think you do...

To be fair, watching a realistic portrayal of coding would be pretty boring, the show would be over before the hero managed to trace down the damn null reference exception buried in a third-party assembly.

For those who saw Enemy of the State, you know exactly what I'm talking about.
An other honorable mention goes out to CSI for being able to capture a license plate from a low security video camera by enhancing and zooming about a dozen times, then being able to zoom in on a reflection of a window and reverse the image so they can read it.

Everybody knows an IP address cannot have numbers higher than 255, but on TV you often see numbers in the 300 and more. I suppose it's a way not to write legitimate IPs which could annoy the owner of the site with such an IP, but it still hurts when I see those.
