I am working on a project where we have to create a video chat application, it will work as a P2P application like skype or msn.

I want to know what should be the best technology stack for this. How should I proceed for this part. Should I use DirectShow or any custom codec?

Any ideas or suggestions?

Why does everyone want to reinvent the wheel, and why do they employ people who have no idea to do the task they have been given ?

Why would you use a custom codec ? DirectX seems like an obvious choice. However, I thought WMP can be pointed to a video stream over the web, so you could use that. chat roulette used flash, and there's plenty of source code for variant on that, on the web. I am certain there's video chat sample code on Code Project, also.
