Hello,
This shouldn't be hard, but I can't seem to figure it out. I have a simple setup project created using vs.net "Setup and Deployment Projects". I added a single dialog to the default UI with 4 text boxes. The property names associated with the text boxes are EDITA1, EDITA2, ...etc.
I build the project and then attempt to modify the default value of EDITA1 from the command line by entering the following:
msiexec /i Setup1.msi EDITA1="My Val"
This runs setup, however the text box associated with this property comes up empty. I'm expecting that "My Val" would appear in the text box.
What am I missing?

1)How can i retrieve a binary field (image field) that stored in SqlServer2000 with Vb.Net and save
it again in my hard disk that i have again that file?
2)can SqlServer itself convert image field to file with its store procedures?
3)can sqlserver run an exe file on local computer from its storeprocedure?

Hi Evrybody,
I got A question for you all.
At some point in my project i want to automate the creation of my application.There are three source files which need to be processed to create the finished program.
How do i create a batch file which will compile the programs to build the required assemblies and the executable.
i know it has got something to do with nmake command.Can somebody please explain me this command and the procedure.

Greetings!
I have a custom class that has three public properties. I have a control that has a public property that is an instance of that class. I want the property to show up in the property grid with a + sign and to show the class's properties when a user clicks on the + sign.
Fine. No problem. I just set the TypeConverter attribute for the class to ExpandableObjectConverter, and everything works as advertised.
With one small exception.
I have a demo project that has a form that has an instance of the control. I edit the form and set one of the control's class instance's properties. I run the form and click a button that shows what the object's properties are. The message box tells me that the value I entered in the property grid got lost!!! It is not permanently applied to the object on my form!
What do I have to do to get .Net to remember my property change?

The information is above is not helping because untill now after many
attempts this did not function yet!
Take a look at:

I have good messages that is OK, but untill I could not run ASPNET and nor
WEBService applications under VS.Net 2003/Windows 2000 server com SP 4/IIS
5.0 !
What shoud I do?

Hello there experts!
Im currently working on my first .Net application where i visualize some FEM calculations using VTK(visualiztion ToolKit).
Im using .Net and WINAPI as GUI.
But now I want to build an standalone application and really dont have any ideas on how to do this. So I dont really know what to look for on the web.
I have build an version by setting the build mode to Execute, and I guess that this version requires the dll files if it was to run on another computer? If that is the case I want to make an install/uninstall application that installs these files. Any suggestions?
And finally , if I dont want to use dlls, how do I build an static version ?

You cannot, you must deploy the .NET framework on the target machine.

You probably want to create a new Windows Application project (also know as a WinForms or Windows Forms application - if your looking for key words). You'll find the relevant type in the project type folder for your language of choice. Also there are a number of tutorials here on CodeProject for getting started.

You should add a Setup Project (in the Setup and Deployment Project category) to your solution. There are some tutorials on MSDN to help you get started with creating a setup project.

As i tried the vssreporter.exe which is a nice tool. But its lacking of wildcard search. Im looking for a tool which can work with sourcesafe or does sourcesafe has such funcitonality??

I am building a custom Print Dialog box in VB.net that works similar to Microsoft Word Print Dialog box.
I have problem with these two features –
1. Printer Properties – When user clicks on this button a “Printer Properties” Dialog should be shown similar to what you get from here – ControlPanel >> Printers and Faxes
Right click on any Printer and in the pop up menu select “Printing Preferences” (For XP OS)
(Similar to dialog that opens when you click on “Properties” on the Print dialog of a Word or Excel Application)
I am using the API call to PrinterPropoerties in winSpool.drv, but this give a different Dialog than what I want.
2. Find printer – when user clicks on this button a “Find Printer” Dialog should be shown similar to what you get from here – Startup >> Search >>Printers, computers or people .. >>A printer on the network (On XP os)
(Similar to dialog that opens when you click on “Find Printer” on the Print dialog of a Word or Excel Application)
I am just not able to get these working.
I will appreciate, if any one can help me in solving the problem.

Unless I totally misunderstand the question, there is nothing special you must do as line breaks etc have their associated character codes and will be saved to a database exactly as any other character such as alpha-numerics/symbols/non-printables.
The only formatting needed on the return of data is when dealing with ASP.NET line breaks must be replaced by <br/> or <p></p> as required. This can be done with either Regex or a simple String.Replace

It seems we have to install the whole .net framwork before run c# application on WinXP.But even if I install the .net framwork 1.1 package on Win2000,my C# application still cannt run on it.Since C# is better than VC++,why the application developed with it has such a unbearable restriction?
If we have to asked our users to install the .net framwork before run our application? or if there someother way to let our C# application run fluently on WinXP,Win2000,WinMe,Win98?

I released my c# project usbtest(Cs) and got the usbtest(Cs).exe.There is no problem when I run it on my own WinXP PC,but when I run it on other's WinXP PC or Win2000 PC,then error occurs:
Win2000:error name:usbtest(Cs).exe--cannot find DLL
error content:can not find DLL mscoree.dll in the appointed path. F:\;.;C:\WINNT\System32; C:\WINNT\system; C:\WINNT;C:\WINNT\system32;C:\WINNT;C:\WINNT\System32\Wbem
WinXP: error name:usbtest(Cs).exe--application error
error content:application normal initialization (0xc0000135) fail.Please click "OK" to terminate application.
Can you tell what makes this error and how to work out it?

Sorry for posting in multiple boards, but my post in the C# board gave no replies what so ever, so I thought I give it a try here too.
I´m working on a project where we are making a hook for an other software. Now we have encountered a problem and I would like some help on finding a work-around.
When we are opening a new form in the hook an exception is thrown and the form is destroyed. The exception is a System.TypeInitializationException that says that "The type initializer for "System.Drawing.SafeNativeMethods" threw an exception. -->System.NullreferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object".
I have traced the exception into the InitializeComponent() method and it is thrown when the first component on the form is initialized. This exception does not appere every time, but once in a while. I can not see any real reason for the problem and we are not doing any different when it works and does not.
I have searched the net and found others that have had the same problem, mut I have not found any good solution. The problem seems to be in GDI+, at least that is what how I have understod it when reading posts on other forums..
The application loading the hook is creating appDomains for all hooks so that it can unload them as it whishes, I think that this might be the root of the problem, or? We would really need to show this form, its for configuring the hook, and the main application really needs to unload the hooks now and then, so the problem is a fact.
Is there any good work-around for this? Is there anything we can do to solve this problem without having to make changes in the main application?

the Visual Studie dev environment will not list the contents of the GAC in the add references dialog.
If you are developing dlls that you wish to distribute and have others reference then there are some steps that you need to perform.
If the assembly is shared (installed to the GAC) then you need to install a copy of it in another directory. This is what happens when you install the .net Framework. (reason follows later)
For Visual Studio to automatically show your DLLs in the add references dialog, add the following registry key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\.NETFrameWork\AssemblyFolders\SomeName
change its default value to the directory path where you installed your dlls.
(C:\Program Files\MyCustomDLLs\bin)
Now the reason for having to make a copy of the GAC'ed assemblies: If you had to reference them without making a copy, you would have an unweildly path to put into the registry. Also think about the scenario where you would have multiple dlls that you put in the GAC and need to have people reference the, a seperate key for each one of them as they reside in seperate folders.
Note: when one references a shared assembly (one that is in the GAC), from the location where a copy was installed, you will find that the "Copy Local" property for that dll will be set to false. This is what should happen. (In some circumstances, like some MS Sql app dlls, the copy local property gets set to true - can lead to some very bad behaviour).

I found that on some machines on running the uninstaller, Microsoft Installer would not remove the assemblies installed by it in the first place.
I could not uninstall the assemblies using the GacUtil either (even with a force uninstall flag). The problem seemed to stem from the fact that reference count was not decremented during uninstallation.
To make the uninstaller do the right thing, found that deleting the (default) key from the registry helped.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Assemblies\Global\
on machines that the unistaller did not remove the assemblies, the default key would most probably have some gobble dee gook.
If you delete this key, it will be replaced with
(default) no value set
After this, when you run the uninstaller, Microsoft Installer will correctly delete the dlls.
From what I found, the gooble-dee-gook is put there by MSN Messenger 6.0 and its a problem that MSN knows, but hasnt documented!!!

I want to write an 3ds max plugin that exposes the max SDK interface through remoting or COM.
As 3ds doesn't support .Net i presume i have to make standard .dll in c++ and somehow get a CLR initialized and hosted. Any ideas on how i might go about this ? Would i have to wrap the max SDK to be able to remote it ?
Any thoughts/ideas appreciated
Im fluent in c++ but new to the .NET framework so be gentle.
