Well, which is your priority? Easier development with the .NET Framework, or having it work on any win32 system?
If it is with the .NET Framework then you have to install the .NET Framework on the machines you are deploying your application to. If it is any win32 system (including those without the .NET Framework, and that will not be installing it) then you will have to develop in C++.
You have to make a choice.

thanks that was really helpfull, but i think that this method only works when there is an Active Directory installed, is this right?
so i need a generic way to retrieve the machines in the network even if it was a workgroup!!!

Basically what you'll need to do is use the DOS utility "net view". When you type it in the command prompt, it lists all computers on the network whether Active Directory is on or off. All you'll have to do in your app is to call the Shell using "net view" as a command and adding ">C:\myfile.txt" (this is the location where all the net view info will be stored). Just read the file from your app and parse the string to get the list. I've already seen several VB6 apps doing this and have tried it myself on WinXP and it works fine. Check out NetSend (VB6) here http://www.a1vbcode.com/download.asp?ID=2503 it does exactly what you need  ;)

here's a command: net view
It will write to the standard output so i guess there will be no problem there 
Or there is another method, using NetBios, for that try google:P
And it fades like the shadow in the night.

I am using .NET V 1.1, I have a wierd  problem. I write some code, and that is reflected only when I close the solution, open it again, and then run it.
what is the problem?

Just downloaded the new .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack. It succeeded to install on all my Windows 2000 PCs and even on other Windows XP PCs.
Only my own development machine (Windows XP, SP 2) fails to install, bringing up a "TargetInvocationException" during installation.
Anyone noticed this behaviour and knows a workaround/fix?

I'm trying to run this application but i keep getting an error message saying that the .NET Framework is unable to load mscorwks.dll
I can't launch the application...this happened with the demo app i downloaded from http://www.codeproject.com/csharp/GlobalSystemHook.asp
and some other related apps.
Can anybody know how to solve this issue?

P.S: I heard that this happens with unmanaged C++ applications...but the rest of the users seem to enjoy the same download while I can't...

Your installation of the .NET Framework is broken. mscorwks.dll is the Workstation version of the runtime - mscorlib.dll is pretty much just a loader that loads the appropriate version of the runtime. You should reinstall the Framework.

I want simply :
-->when the programs invokes check for new updates
-->if there promtp to user do update now
-->if user will give okey update program close all the open files about application and get new version dlls, resource so on...
--> and restart the application

Hi guys,
I'm taking a class for which all my material must be written in C, not C++ or C#. Does anyone know if theres an expansion/download for visual studio that allows one to do this? I can get basic C to compile if i create a Visual C++ project > Win32 > Empty Project, and then rename a text file to the .c extension, but the DOS prompt won't wait on functions like scanf() that require user input. I really don't want to develop in vi on our campus Sun machines, so any input is much appreciated.

You should be able to write "plain C" applications with VS.NET. Give your files a ".C" extension and it should work OK.

Interesting in that way, that it is interesting to test the usability of
that PocketPc application (this application should be able to use from many

I still don't think I understand what you mean. From my interpretation of what you are asking for things like Pocket Word and Pocket Excel would count. Both of those applications come with the Pocket PC itself.
