Hi guys,
I'm taking a class for which all my material must be written in C, not C++ or C#. Does anyone know if theres an expansion/download for visual studio that allows one to do this? I can get basic C to compile if i create a Visual C++ project > Win32 > Empty Project, and then rename a text file to the .c extension, but the DOS prompt won't wait on functions like scanf() that require user input. I really don't want to develop in vi on our campus Sun machines, so any input is much appreciated.

I never got it to work right with just changing the file names, I use the command line options:

You should be able to write "plain C" applications with VS.NET. Give your files a ".C" extension and it should work OK.

I still don't think I understand what you mean. From my interpretation of what you are asking for things like Pocket Word and Pocket Excel would count. Both of those applications come with the Pocket PC itself.

For my machine, they reside in "C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Managed DirectX\v9.02.2904"
Have you made sure that you've installed the latest DirectX Runtime to your machine ? By DX Runtime, I mean the DirectX installation package you can get from Microsoft that allows you to play DirectX games.

I had the same problem...I kept on having files missing no matter what I downloaded...so at the end I downloaded everything related to DirectX from microsoft's website... The SDK isn't enough...you need to download the redistributable runtime package which will install the missing files (Microsoft.DirectX.dll etc...) Also, you'll need to install the package on every machine you wish to run your application on...Cheers

OPC defines two main components(COM) registered in opcserver category : OpcServer & OpcGroup. I have written two coresponing classes as follows that implement the required Interfaces as defined by OPC.

I can in a not managed programming language such as delphi or c++ create an instance of them and call all methods of both of them and QueryInterface them to all implemented Interfaces and see they are working by showing just a messagebox for test.
The problem is that the IOPCServer Interface defines a method AddGroup as follows that returns an instance of OPCGroup and has following signature in c++ and c#:

When in the unmanged code call this method of IOPCServer, it seems to be ok, but the returned object in ppUnk that supposed to be a IOPCItemMgt fails to execute any of its methods and raises an memory exception. I tried following implementation for OPCSerevr.AddGroup but all of them have the same wrong result:

Invoking "ipconfig /all" from the command line displays a lot of useful information about the network configuration, including IP addresses.
I'm trying to determine the IP addresses to the DNS servers from a C application but have so far only been able to extract the host/local IP address - by using the functions gethostname and gethostbyname.
Any ideas?

I've got troubles to build a project (in debug mode): under VC++6.0 it works very well, but when I try to compile it on another PC with VC++.NET, I got some link issues: mfc libs were missing (msc42d.lib, mscn42D.lib....). When I finally got all that missing dlls, I had this message: "external unresolved: _iid_iactivescriptdebug" and "external unresolved: _iid_iactivescriptparse". Wich I suppose are defined in another (more recent) version of these dlls.
Anyway, does anybody have a clue to this pb.
Maybe I didn't install well the .NET software, but I reinstalled it with all the options I found, and it didn't help...
Please HELP..............

VC++ .NET installs the MFC version 7.1 files on your computer. These files are 'almost' backwards compatible with the MFC version 4.2 ones, which are installed by VC++ 6.0. You should modify your project settings to include mfc71d.lib and mfcs71d.lib, respectively (Yes, you have typoed there).
The reason that your builds fail might be because you're using a interface definitions that are possibly deprecated (== not supported anymore). The only option is to go through the code and change these to the appropriate, supported values. Because it's a linker error, you should use a feature like "Find in Files..." in the IDE.
If these are, like I believe, GUID identifiers of COM interfaces, you can always use the command __uuidof( interface name ) to return the GUID where needed. This command always gets the correct GUID for the current file version, regardless of what version you're using.

I've two versions of crystal reports. v9.1.5000 and v9.2.3300. VS.NET 2003 IDE shows only v9.1.500 in the .NET assembly reference dialog. Is it possible that different versions of same assembly are shown in .NET assembly reference dialog??

I'm looking for a way to get the PixelFormat of the Screen ( Desktop ). I tried to find it in the MSDN, though I didn't found anything.
In the current project I draw a a few bitmaps quite often, and to speed it up I planning to convert the bitmaps at startup to the current PixelFormat of the screen.

I made a class in VB.NET which communicates with COM port. For that purposes, I used several API functions. I am convinced that I have regularly called them (I have experience with C++). The problematic piece of code executes in a separate thread.
It happens that the main program terminates unexpectedly, with no message, as I closed it myself. It did not happen until I implemented mentioned class. I use .NET Framework 1.1.
I tried to write in log file information when a function is called and then when it returns, but that did not help – log files were interrupted in the middle of writing string to file.
I suspect that the issue is connected with API, but I do not understand why no exception is thrown. Let me mention that my class has no link with the main program, it starts the thread which monitors COM port events and writes them into internal buffer. The main program, occasionally, reads that buffer.
Is this happening only to me?

Recheck your interop declarations, they're probably the cause...
