Wow! I keep my PC away from sleeping quarters for noise, so I've never noticed that effect. The KVM is a good idea, though!

Nice review! I've tried trackballs in the past and hated them, but everyone gets a choice. I rushed out and bought an expensive touchpad back when they were a novel add-on; hated that, too. Oh well, there's no pleasing some people.

Black nail polish. Put a thin veneer on the LED - the same way people darken their tailights. Try it in an inconspicuous area first. . .

Buy a sleeping mask, and then lay it over the LED.
Or a speck of used chewing gum… that will dissuade others from touching the keyboard.

Got mine about 9 or 10 years ago and keeps working like a charm.
Too bad they don't have a "lease" program where you could return the old one and get a newer model. Mine is a very sober Model S and I so wish one of the newer more colorful models.

I like my Das 5QS
YMMV, but it's lovely.
It's lit, but it's controllable, and the lighting is minimalistic and pleasant rather than overbearing.

I have a Chromebox and a Linux Mint box. Each has their own KB & mouse with each computer having one USB dongle to drive the KB & mouse. I’d love to share one KB & mouse but prefer wireless for everything (I freakin hate cables).

You should be able to use a KVM with wireless mouse and wireless keyboard, but you would have a single cable from the KVM switch to each computer.
Might not be worth it if you move stuff around a lot.

Yeah, not a fan of KVMs. I'm told some don't work so well with wireless KBs/mice and it's kind of hit or miss. Also not a fan of Bluetooth KBs/mice (too much lag).
What I'd like is a KB / mouse combo that supports 2 USB unified receivers. Pop a USB into each computer and use a button on the KB / mouse to switch between receivers. I just can't find anything that explicitly says they can do that.

i wish i did not require ergonomic so that i could enjoy something like the DAS you do not recommend . one of my many fantasies is to design/build/assemble my own ideal keyboard . it does not seem a difficult project for one of even moderate mechanical/electrical/software education .

If you want mechanical and ergonomic, take a look at the Feker Alice 80. I have an Alice 80 and love it. I had to add a numeric keypad to go along side it. I see there is a newer model, the Feker Alice 98 that includes the keypad and a full set of function keys. I'd probably go for that today, but like my current Alice 80 too much to make a change.

Das did not have a keyboard that met my requirements. Wired keyboard.
I bought this one:
Perixx PERIBOARD-220H US
Single USB cable from keyboard to computer.
2 side mounted USB ports on keyboard for regular mouse and 3DConnexion mouse.
I tried:
Das Keyboard Model S Professional Wired Mechanical Keyboard,
Cherry MX Brown Mechanical Switches, 2-Port USB Hub
It required 2 ports on computer. Did not work properly with both mouse and keyboard.
Maybe I misunderstood when I bought it, but had to return it.

i also utilize a Perixx in particular 512 it is ergonomic . only occasionally does it present a pleasurable clicky feel . often the keys stick if not hit precisely . but overall i can not complain especially for the price . i am surprised those who utilize a traditional non-ergonomic keyboard do not insist on clicky keys .

MY Perixx is standard layout not like 512. I prefer the traditional layout after so many years using them. As for clicky keys, I would not characterize mine as clicky. It does click but not so much. For the price, it does the job and I am happy with it. I like using 3D mouse and standard mouse at the same time when doing CAD. Does require practice.

I know, but no onboard USB ports. It is a very nice programmable keyboard. Too smart for my needs, though.

Did you mean that there were other requirements besides but including wired that were not met?

DasKeyboard is often hailed as one of the best keyboards around - why I have bought 3: 2xPro4 and 1x4Q.
And - what a disappointment!
The USB-wires on all 3(!) have had defects out of the box.
The built-in USB hub on 2 of the 3 keyboards are disconnecting and reconnecting accompanied with the Windows "disconnect" and "connect" sounds even with nothing attached.
Compared to Ducky or Topre my 3 DasKeyboards have been a major disappointment.
Nice keyboards with great features.
Very bad quality control.
Cannot recommend - and a no-buy from me.
