I agree with you completely. That's part of the freedom of blogs, nobody has to read them. Some you don't want anyone to read. It's a good way of expressing yourself, to yourself as it were

But don't fool yourself. The mere possibility that someone else may spend their time to read your ramblins is a huge drug. Watching the incoming visitors on the stats. counter is addictive.

Of course, I don't even have a personal website anymore.
The closest thing I had when I did have a website (long ago, in college, in the early days of the web), was a back end perl script that would allow the user to input a line of text, and the site would pick at random one of those lines... like a quote of the day type thing. It was great, except people abused it, as you might guess.  I suppose the same could happen with blogs.

Cool poll but there should be a qualifying question: Are you a web-developer?
Break the results down into those two categories and I am sure the difference will be very clear. It is very much a web-dev haxor roxor thing IMO (with some noteable exceptions of course, but aren't there always?)

Also:
Is it a public blog or just a private one?
I highly recommend keeping a private one for quickly logging when you install new software and such to determine what screwed up your system and made you do a clean install of Windows.

The logging side is great though. It is pretty useful to setup automatic blogging for app. events etc. Much like that Windows Event Log to RSS app.
People hear the word "blog" and think of posts on peoples bowel movements and pet kittens. But it is just a flipping reverse ordered list really. Lots of use.
