hoping against hope that you wouldn't actually look at it for a few days. I know of a student who used to rename pictures with "My Term paper1.docx" MSWord would have a cow trying to open it. and he would get a few more days to work on said paper.
Student syndrome. They aren't done yet and probably sent something along that line is my first guess in situations like this. I quite often open in NotePad++ and look to see if the headers say something different than the file extension says.

It is now time to buy a second monitor.
I see that the word "refurbished" has appeared in this market now.
Can I get the opinions and experiences of those who have been there and done that ?
Is a refurbished monitor smart or stupid ?

You can save some money, but ... what you are getting is a product that has been returned by the purchaser and re-tested by the manufacturer. You don't get any idea why it was returned, or what the manufacturer did to it for resale.
Is it a lot of money you save? What's the warrantee length? Is it the "current model"? does it come with all it's cables, or do you have to factor that in as well? Original packaging - if not, then will it survive rough handling during the shipping process?
Avoid "as-is" in the description, and it's probably fine. But if I was only saving 10% or so, I'd go new to make my life easier.

The warranty is critical -- if a unit doesn't have the original's full warranty, you don't want it.
A few years back I purchased a refurbished router -- it worked great for 9 months, then a lightning strike took out one of my trees (I found 3' strips of bark 150' away) and fried the router. The original had a 3 year warranty, while refurb had 6 months. I saved half on the refurb then paid full shot for a new one.
OTOH, with new units 1 in 10,000 has been inspected. For refurbs, every one has been inspected, so your likelihood of getting a lemon is much lower -- IF the warranty is good.

If the refurbished monitor comes with the same guarantee as a new monitor, and is significantly cheaper, it may be worth your while. However, I have seen new 4K monitors advertised (on Amazon) for USD 200-250, so even if refurbished are half price, you're not saving that much and are taking on a higher risk of failure.
I personally would go for new.
