No, I'm not kidding. I know a Canadian finance company called Blizzard and Activision vaguely makes me think of VR goggles or something.
However from the discussion above I'm assuming it's a computer games company. As per a thread elsewhere in the lounge today, I don't play them (occasional sudoku and 2048 aside) so have never had any reason to come across them.

so upgraded to Windows 11 and now Sling TV works in Brave but no longer works in Edge and Chrome, LOL.
I also didn't like the placement of the task bar. I like it on the right side of the screen. So I had to hack that.
Otherwise, It is still winders. Everything else seems to work.

Have you tried Doom?  BTW, Thank you and all the other early adopters for testing it out. From what I've read so far (here), there are more complaints than accolades.
When it includes a 'must have' feature, I'll consider the move, otherwise I'm happy with X. My current PC doesn't meet the minimum requirements so for now, I'm just a spectator anyway. Good luck!

It's odd to say this but Windows 10 is my last version of Windows. I love the mac hardware (and have tried pretty much every other laptop and found them wanting), and MS in their infinite wisdom simply don't support non-TPM systems. VS Code runs nicely on macOS and all my code from hereon in will be cross platform.
So sorry Microsoft, you've decided my future is macOS. And given almost everything is web-based these days, I'm actually looking forward to simply living in iPadOS one of these days.
(But congrats, and I hope it works out well, and I am very curious as to how it is. I worry there's still lots of win95 holdovers poorly wrapped (or simply linked to) by a thin layer. That makes me sad)

this is a work laptop. I am proud to say all my personal devices run some version of Linux. Garuda is my favorite at the moment and yes VSCode works on this OS as well.

Same here Chris, I'm not continuing beyond windows 10.
I have perfectly good hardware, that runs all my development software that I need, and allows me to d my day to day job as required, I'm simply not prepared to contribute more eWaste to the planet in the name of progress.
If they don't want to support it, or are fed up with folks with ancient PC's demanding that MS fix thier problems, then fine, cut off support and help at a given age point, but in my mind as long as the hardware works and runs everything ok, I really don't see what the issue is.
Yes all of my newer hardware is a little on the old side, but it all works perfectly, and what's more NONE of it has any problems running the most up to date versions of Linux.
Since I moved from Visual Studio to JetBrains, I now also don't have any need for running on a windows system anymore.
My Development IDE's work cross platform, .NET & .NET Core is now cross platform, I NO longer need IIS for most of my projects as I can run them behind any web server, my databases are all cross platform now (Since I typically only work with SQL Server, PostgreSQL and SQLite) I can do all my embedded stuff on Linux now too, and for the ultimate twist in irony...
My Windows Mixed Reality VR headset actually works better on Steam running under Linux than it does on the windows platforms.
So yes, when support ends, so will my 30 year stint with windows.... I've been in this for the long haul since windows 286
AND I still maintain... the BEST ever version of windows that was ever built was "Windows 2000"

I installed Start11 quickly after the upgrade. Now I have my taskbar and start menu configured very nicely.
Explorer context menus are a bit annoying, but I can still do what I need.

I know I can replace the start menu with 3rd party software, but I just can't get over the new start menu, I can't stand the way it looks or operates, so I'm not upgrading.
11 feels like windows 8 or Vista, easy to skip over

My 8 yo desktop is currently running on half RAM -- one of the 4 GB sticks is not registering. I will crack the case, clean the contacts, and re-seat it to see if that fixes it.
If that fixes the problem, I'll continue limping along with it. The PC runs fine, although it's obviously long in the tooth. I have looked into replacing it, but prices and availability have kept the old tiger running.
If it doesn't fix it? I can get a pair of 4 GB DDR3 (yes, this PC is that old!) for $46 USD.
Any suggestions on where to look for components? I build my own and haven't been pleased with what I've seen at the common vendors.

You've picked about the worst time to build a new PC. Prices are high, and supply is short and even impossible to get. You can't find a video card anywhere on the planet. You're in line behind more than a million (not an exaggeration!) other people waiting for video cards.

Prices for the little available stock are 2 problems.
Yeah, this is NOT the time to build a new one, but if my old unit craps out, well, there's not a lot of options.
I had hoped to hang on with it another year. Overall, it runs fine for my purposes -- the HD is much newer (I replace the HD every other year, and when I build a new unit), so that's not a problem. Just that pesky CPU + RAM ....

It's not true he can't find a graphics card. I have a GTX960 on a shelve somewhere - he can have that one for just USD 5000 - I will even throw in free shipping (any import duty is his own problem of course).

Do you know if this shortage of video cards (and their ridiculous prices) has to do with their intensive usage for crypto mining? Or is just the need for gaming - the raison d'être of 'computers' for more and more people? Because I - not being interested in either perversion - could happily live with what the motherboard itself has to offer in terms of video and sound. At least for a good while.

Newegg has a policy of replace, not refund. I once ordered a computer kit from them, in which I had to install the CPU chip myself. The motherboard was bad, it was a design problem that could not be fixed simply by replacing it with another of the same. I forget what the problem was, but had something to do with incompatibility with the CPU. Since they would not refund, I spent several hours with their tech support, who even sent me a new CPU chip to try out. I eventually gave up, tossed the whole thing as a loss, and bought a new burned in computer elsewhere.
Therefore, I no longer buy from Newegg except for commodity parts that are a good deal.

8 year old? Replace anyway. Either you get something slightly faster but lighter / with better battery life or something significantly faster... with the benefit tha you have less to worry about your PC dying suddenly.

Most of us are not terrible concerned about the battery life or weight of a desktop system. Though to be fair, it does suck a bit if the CMOS battery is out of juice.

I was planning on replacing the unit last summer, but prices and availability made me hang on. I fear it's the MB, not the RAM, so replacing the unit is probably my best choice.
