Not really important, just curious: Am I on something like a 'black list' that I don't see the 'email' widget?

It's possible that's been changed: I just looked on my member page under "Privileges" and it looks like it's restricted to Protectors - it may be a GDPR thing to protect personal information like emails.

I just got the cat to log in, and he's pretty low rep - he can't see the "email" link either, so it's not just you!

Ouch. That's not good - because it appears on his profile, it also gets included in every one of his articles.
And that looks a lot like monetization, even though I don't think it's deliberate.
