It might be worthwhile to invest in something like - they used to call it a steelhead server? - something that can take incoming VPN connections. Expose your services through that, since it dramatically decreases your vulnerable surface area of your network. Basically to even get a port list you have to pass challenge response auth on a hardened system.

I store all my source code at VisualStudio.com[^]. I've stuck with using TFS-VC because when I created my (free) account eons ago, Git wasn't an option. Today, you can choose to use Git instead of TFS-VC. I think this will meet your needs. You can also optionally allow others to collaborate on specific projects as long as they have a Microsoft identity.

I wanted a way for my IoT graphics library to import fonts so that one wasn't stuck with a fixed font at a couple of fixed sizes. After trying and failing (worse actually - *nearly* succeeding) to rasterize truetype fonts to a pixel perfect grid I decided after some googling to use the deprecated ".fon" files that used to hold bmp based fonts.
These .fon files are renamed executables with the fonts as an embedded resource. Some of them are in the more modern "Portable Executable" format. Some are in the "New Executable" format, which is naturally, older and is windows 3.1's exe format, i guess - at least if i've interpreted the lay of things accurately.
It's not a big deal parsing them - i ported a script that does it in python to C++ but it's just really bizarre.
With IoT in this case, as it is so many other cases, everything old is new again.

That's still too advanced. You have not really seen everything until you have made your own 3x5 pixel font for screen resolutions like 64x64.
