Had my second (Astra) shot, just over a week ago. After the first, I had one night of shivering and a couple of days feeling tired. I had virtually no reaction after the 2nd jab. Just a bit tired on the day - which could just be down to stress, as I'm sh!t scared of needles.

This morning I am using my laptop -- I use it on weekends.
It had an update so I said, "update and restart".
Didn't think much about it.
Everything was working fine.
I used the computer for a few hours.
I went out to do some yard work and returned to my laptop.
The keyboard no longer worked. The fingerprint scanner no longer worked. The mouse did work though. Hmmm...?? 
I finally got it to recognize the keyboard and noticed that the laptop had restarted again.
I couldn't figure out why -- checked event logs and saw nothing. Fingerprint scanner still didn't work.
I checked to see if there was another update. There was only the one that I had ran earlier so I decided to check out what the update was for:
KB4589212: Intel microcode updates for Windows 10, version 2004 and 20H2, and Windows Server, version 2004 and 20H2[^]
OY!! I looked down through it. It's for INTEL CPUs and my system runs an AMD RYZEN 7.
Why would they run that update on my system? I really don't understand the point.

Probably because Microsoft fired nearly the entire QA team a couple years ago and tore down the testing environment. It relies almost exclusively on telemetry for feedback on the impacts of various hardware on the code.
So, yeah. Release casually tested code, wait for something to break, get the telemetry, go fix any issues with a blindfold on (because you only have telemetry to work with), casually test, release new patch.... to fix the patch. Rinse and repeat.
Instead of testing on varied hardware ahead of time, scrap all that, and shoot crappy reputation for poorly implemented features in the face and make it even more crappy with poorly implemented features and a heaping side of really buggy code!

Wow, I didn't know that. But, it makes sense in relation to all the challenges they are having now.

This is very interesting too, because I remember when the telemetry stuff just started taking over and doing a lot of i/o. It may be related to what we're seeing my other recent post (SSD wear level and read/writes)[^] -- related to a lot of reads/writes going on.

I got an email from BitsDuJour, including AOMEI Backupper Pro for free.
I'm on my Surface, so I quickly checked if I had it installed - yes, but ... the freeware version.
Odd, I thought - I'll check the desktop. Boot it up, and yes, it's the full version.
"Great!" I think to myself. "I'll update to Pro". Off I go.
Hang on a mo though ... check my Password store ... and yes, I have a fully-paid-for-including-unlimited -updates two PC license for the full version already. I just forgot to install the licence on the Surface 
Am I the only person who forgets what software he's already paid for?

Thanks for posting that! It made me go and check my license, and it is the same as yours. A couple of weeks ago I had installed the free version on my entertainment laptop - a 19" screen multi-media thingy, my previous main machine - as I have started to digitize some of my vinyl collection and so needed to do proper backups, and also wanted a clone of C: in case a planned upgrade to Win 10 went pear-shaped. Now I shall install it on that machine as well.
I used to just use that machine just for streaming video to a TV so left it on a Win 7 Home Premium clean install, but when it became more central to my music listening I decided to check out upgrading to Win 10. When this was my main machine I had used MSDN to upgrade to 7 Pro, so when MS ran the Win 10 free upgrade program I got Win 10 Pro. When I replaced the laptop with a new machine, I just did a clean install of Win 7 Home from the original CDs, and left it at that. When I went to see if I could still get a free upgrade to Win 10 Home two weeks ago, not only did I get that - I also got 10 Pro back again, not by choice, but by default!
I was going to post here about it, but decided to keep a low profile in case it should suddenly revert, but it hasn't so far, so I thought I would just tack the story onto the end of this reply. I first got the tip from the 'How to geek' website. Obviously MS kept the data relating to my original upgrade, and tied it back to this machine.

Other than my steam library and visual studio (also windows if you count it when it ships with a PC) I don't really pay for software. The software I do pay for is usually big ticket ($500 USD or thereabouts) like Visual Studio so I'm not likely to forget.
But I just don't find the need to purchase a lot of little software things. Most of what I need to do can be done with free software or a little bit of code or even a script. The last thing that wasn't a game, and wasn't visual studio or windows, that i purchased was a $10 MP4/TMDB tagging tool i can't remember the name of though - because i don't use it anymore and it has been years.
