There are a couple series around that length that I enjoy: The Foreigner Sequence by C. J. Cherryh, and The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. Both authors are good at keeping the series interesting without going off the rails.

That said, there seem to be an awful lot of these 8, 10, or more book series' out there from no-name authors. The plotlines read like a laundry list of overly-used SF/fantasy tropes.
