You talked me into it: I've ordered a Gaggia Naviglio Silver, mostly because the reviews are good, the price is good, the coffee is (apparently) good, and it's one of the few machines where the water tank and waste bucket are accessible from the front of the machine instead of the back!
Given where I want to put it, that's a good idea.
One of the reasons I didn't use my older Espresso machine (a Kenwood Cafe Retro) too much was that the water tank needed the machine pulled away from the wall about 50cm to fill it (or even check it). Plus the steam wand was poor and hard to clean.

I was right . . . you're in a much better pay-grade than I.
My last two coffee-makers (admittedly I put the scoop in the coffee and add the water myself) were (1) free after rebates, and (2) ca. $25, refurbished.
Both featured reusable filters and you poured the water in from the copy you wished to brew into, thus assuring a precise measurement (sans that absorbed by the coffee). The former, which also included a ceramic mug, only lasted about ten years.
The later has helped bring me to a better place this very day and will likely continue to do so. ☕
So - will what you got really make coffee over 40x better? What am I missing?

It should be better - purely because the grind-to-brew time is minimal - but incrementally, rather than exponentially. The coffee I make in the Cafetiere is pretty good (I think, at least), so I'm looking for "parity or better" rather than vast improvement.
But it should be quicker and easier.
And a toy - it's a birthday present for me after all!

Now I haven't shopped around or anything, but that coffee maker probably cost as much as purchasing a concubine from overseas.
It seems that that particular purchase, as a present to you, of course, could not only make you your coffee but supply other important services. Send said purchase out to work and it's a self-sustaining investment.

I drink 1-2 cups a day.
So, I installed an instant-on hot water heater, and a high-end water filter [LOVE IT].
I use folgers instant coffee... And you know what? I never have to wait.
It tastes great. No extras.
And the CLEANUP is ONE CUP! (Honest).
I think my coffee costs me a few pennies a cup. I can make like 6 cups in a row, if we have guests...
We just never tell them it is instant... LOL

Folgers was what my grandmother used - as far as instants go, it's near the top end. I have a brother who did exactly as you, coffee-temperature-demand-hot-water and all - but he has since lowered his standards and now use Keurig. It recent time, if you'd had a chance to try them, StarBucks came out with an instant coffee that I could only tell from fresh-brewed by the tiny specs of debris in the real coffee. A side-by-side test, too. Not cheap.
Fortunately, I'm not a gourmet with coffee - different degrees of near-swill will do if the caffeine need is great. To avoid the free swill (at work when I went to that place) I would put beverage-hot water from a water 'cooler' into my cup containing very finely ground coffee. Not as instant as your instant, but it is real brewed coffee, as fresh as possible. I have the option (missing with your route) of varying the coffee type (espresso, Sumatra dark, Cafe Caribe, etc.). Extraordinary cheap. too, and only the one cup to clean up.
(a funny thing: Folger's ground coffee falls flat).

We need to have a unique ID system for the internet so you can post stupidity like that under your real identity. The anonymity of the net lets a lot of rubbish and deliberate misinformation in, and the gullible will always believe it ...

I don't know how it would help. People still have to filter information and decide whom to trust and what to believe. I'd far rather see accountability for those who make poor decisions that they force on others, but I'm not holding my breath.

A lot of the problems with the internet are down to a lack of responsibility: you can say anything you like with no repercussions because nobody knows who you really are. Thus, people post offensive material, misinformation, and so on that they would never do in the real world because people would lose respect for them / hit them pretty hard if they did.
Look at the amount of "how to clean your facebook / twitter / blah, blah" advice there is for when people realize that potential employers will look at what they have done and said. Look at what happened to Dalek Dave when he stood for council elections - one racist post on twitter and he lost them a safe seat in the middle of the biggest swing to his party in a generation! And we haven't seen him since. That's responsibility in action: if you are going to be held accountable for what you post then you are a lot less likely to post cr@p - and if you do, you will get called on it and people will trust what you say less in future.

A great idea in a civilized world. But when a government is run by authoritarians, people who said or say things that are no longer acceptable are at risk. Anonymity is still necessary.
